Prob After 2.0 Upgrade.

Hi peeps, quick question. My son and I have just put a 2.0 engine in his Finesse estate. It's X reg and has electronic instruments. We fitted a DEWY

ecu as descibed on here and everything worked brilliantly(after I corrected a number error on my part! D'oh!!) Anyway, he is mightily impressed

(duck on hot snot being one of his descriptions!) BUT the temperature gauge now doesn't work. Does anyone have any ideas on this please?

Is this a known prob? Any fixes? Cheers

Thanks for that Stu. Yes I thought it should be an EEC-V, 104 pin, from what has been on here previously. We got a 104 pin 2 litre Mondeo ecu

to try and use but found out when we looked that it was 60 pin EEC-IV! The original was labelled ONIS and the car has the electronic instruments.

I haven't got a diagram that shows the connections for those instruments. Haynes just says "post 1995" which is a great help! I just wondered whether

the temp gauge got its signal from the ecu, which I guess the DEWY doesn't do? I don't know much about Mondeo's, never had one, so am struggling a bit.

The gauge worked ok with the previous 1.6 and it's ecu so can't see why it shouldn't work now. We used the same thermostat housing as well.

Any thoughts about this prob will be welcomed, thanks guys.

Well, there was a transitional phase where you could have 60 pin EEC-V ECU's. As far as i'm aware you need an EEC-V ECU to drive the digital dash properly. I'll have a look at the wiring diagrams to see if the temp gauge sender is hooked up differently but I doubt it.

I must admit i'm a little surprised if a 60 pin EEC-V car is working with a 1993 EEC-IV ECU! It's not something i'm looked into before!

Perhaps that's what this is, a 60 pin EEC-V!!! (Put head in hands, start crying!!!) The car was built in June 2000 if the vin is to be believed, so I suppose anything is possible! I don't know when production ended but Ford have made changes during end runs before. The engine runs ok but is a bit hesitant when idling. We have done a compression check, changed fuel rail and injectors and the injection wiring loom to no avail. Any info much appreciated, thanks Stu.

Cheers Stu, its WFONXXBBANYK68718. The 1.6 only had one temperature sensor on the thermostat housing but there is a blanking plug in the bottom of it.

I guess that means the temp gauge is probably fed from the ecu. If so we may be able to bypass it with a second sensor and some constructive wiring!!!

Cheers for any help you are able to give.

This is an interesting thread, got me motivated to go and look at my x plate finesse ECU.

Just goes to show, you can't trust anybody these days!!! Just out of interest, Lordjc, when was your car registered? My son had his from new(?)

and registered in October 2000 but according to the VIN info was made in June. The electronic instruments worked fine but after we fitted the 2 litre

and a DEWY ecu the temp gauge refuses to work. The performance, however is quite impressive and as we have a RS2000 4x4 to compare it with

I guess a bit of comparitive testing may happen sometime soon!!!

webbysdad- According to my resources, your car (X*** SFC) could have either a 60 or 104 pin EEC-V ECU. I think the fact it may say EEC-IV on the sticker is a bit of a red herring. Your car will be OBD-II, which is what the digital dash is designed for. EEC-IV has no intelligence coming out of it to talk to the dash, never has done!

I'll have to look into it for you. The diagram I have here shows pin 14 on your ECU being the temp gauge signal to the digital dash.
