If you think your braking has noticeably improved since changing to discs on the back I recommend you get it on a brake tester (MOT station) as it may potentially be unsafe. 90% of the braking is done by the front brakes so changing the rears shouldn't make a noticeably difference, if it does it may mean they're way out of balance and potentially dangerous.

its approx 75% at the front 25% to the rear btw

and yeah u may have noticed the brakes feeling better but what stu is trying to say is,

as the front wheels are the driven wheels they have whats known as a mechanical resistance ie rotated by the drive train etc etc and are more difficult for the brakes to stop, as the rear wheels are just a rollin resistance ( no mechanical drive ) they are far easier to lock up so any great amount of alteration on the brake percentage to the rear could result in the equivelant in you jamming your hand brake on in the instance of an emergancy stop

To make it simpler to what they're saying...

In an emergency situation...you had to brake mid-bend sharpish due whatever idiot in front of you is doing. Rear end steps out due to it braking a lot more than it should be doing. That's if they're braking more than they should be from standard.

however, I like it and plan to do it to my car in the future possibly with a brake bias valve also.

Looks good!!

  • 4 weeks later...

Police were doing a routine 'road safety' operation today (just happened to be down a lane which has scrap yards/vehicle breakers etc etc down it)

Got tugged at 8am and had to follow the old bill round the corner to be meet by 2 meat wagons and 3 other police cars  they spent 20 minutes checking round my car, asking loads of questions blah blah blah. One copper was well alright and the other was a complete fcuking idiot. He knew jack all about cars, tried telling me my upper strut brace wasnt standard, that ALL cars are fitted with a lower strut brace and that you dont find Recaros in Escorts so why did i have them in mine!? Then he started yanking on my steering wheel (like he was trying to rip it off) and telling me it wasnt fitted correctly (due to movement in the column - which i swiftly demonstrated you could move backwards and forwards if you pull on the lever to the side - smart arse pr1ck!) Anyway, i think he was annoyed that he couldnt find any problems with my car, other than the plates which the other officer had already spoke to me about, and spent the whole time talking like sh1t to me. He also accused me of not declaring my mods - so just told him to call my insurance up and ask if he was that bothered.

After that i just went and spoke with the nice copper because he was actually speaking to me like a normal person, not some power hungry 40 year old jobsworth virgin

Which brings me to my point i now have standard plates back on as the euro pressed ones were not road legal (had a good 10 months with them, and only got spotted on my 3rd pull of the year lol). Didnt get a ticket or points as had my original plates in the boot - nice!

Also, after going to Classic Ford last weekend, ive decided to get rid of my black angel eyes as 70% of Escorts seem to have them now haha. Bought some black morrettes from heavyrightfoot which should be with me start of next week. Can not wait to get those badboys fitted :) will get pics up when they are fitted

Ages ago I got pulled in my old escort. Random checks but as mine was modded it was obvious they were gonna pull me! Anyway as I had work bein done on the bumper the no plate was in the window...or on the sun visor.... er cant remember but was visible anyway. After checkin the car and everything was fine one nob then tried to have a go that my front no plate sayin it should be illuminated (as mine was in the window). I had to politely inform him that no front no plate is illuminated!!! He went to check with his mate and came back and said... I'LL LET YOU OFF. What a DICK. How can he 'let me off' something that wasnt illegal in the 1st place!!!. Some coppers are ok and do their job and thats ok with me but like everything its the small minority that gives them a bad name.

The only thing I dont get is why they like to pull modded cars!? Peope obviously take care and have pride in their car so why do they pick on them to try and find fault. Its not like its a banged up piece o rusty crap spluttering up the highway! THATS WHAT YOU NEED TO BE LOOKING OUT FOR......NOT A CAR THATS BEEN LOOKED AFTER. No wonder they dont solve crimes anymore, motorist is easy target. Hey-ho what cha gonna do :innocent:

Anthracite cossies, with and without bib (you should have it, though, it doesnt actually go any lower than a standard bumper, so not as low as your splitter on at the minute)

Mmm...you got me thinking now bud. Looks much nicer with the bib. I was worried it would crack/scrape too much to warrant having one. I like the flexability of the Espace splitter lol but then that any scrapes because it sits so slow from the bumper. Cheers for editing those pictures was a nice surprise

Morrettes fitted. Needed the wires looking at but quick easy fix :) Indicators in grill until i decide best way to fit in the splitter vents.

Picked my Cosworth wheels up today - they look MINT and all new Toyo tyres on them. Fitting tomorrow but unsure whats gonna happen with the rear due to the focus disc conversion. If it looks like the wheels/tyres are gonna rub then ill leave them off until ive rolled the arches (still waiting for the arch roller - but may end up using a bar myself)

Pics tomorrow :)
