PATS key transceiver wiring.

Hi all, sorry to start my membership with a question but, here goes..

Its on that damn PATS system Ford are so stupidly precious about.

Righto, I have a matching ECU (WISH), loom, key and key transceiver/receiver thingy.

I got the loom and ECU out of the car (1997 Escort) but forgot the key thingy - when I went back they were about to cube the thing so I had to be quick.

Hence I'm now left with this:

trans.jpg

Can somebody please tell me which wire (1,2,3,4) on the transceiver goes to which wire in the loom?

All four wires are black - thanks Ford!

Just to confirm, I'm NOT trynig to bypass PATS or circumvent it in anyway. Just to keep any legal types happy. :thumb:

Btw, I'm Jon and I drive a mk4 Escort Estate, previously a Fiesta nut before buying a mk3 GL estate then a mk4 Ecrapse.

Was going to 'upgrade' to a mk6 TD estate but all the ones I looked at were proper dogs dinners, hence keeping my rust free (but old and uncomfy) mk4.

Sorted now, found a pinout for the green plug.

I'm sticking a 1600 zetec in a mk4. Trouble is, I've got a PATS loom and ECU and I cut the stupid transceiver thingy off.

I plan on sticking the key and transceiver together up behind the dash somewhere, disabling the immobiliser.

can you not fit a ignition barrel from later car ? and keep the pats working as it should .i put zetec into my mk 1 escort and was amazed that a mondeo ignition barrel fits straight into mk1 stering columb so worth a look you can always build a key to suit barrel its fiddly but do able with a bit of patience :thumb:

We managed to fit the transceiver ring from a mondeo onto a mk3 fiesta lock with a bit of plastic cutting and fiddling so I would imagine that you could do the same with a mk4 escort.

thats basicaly what i did but used mondeo barrel as mk1 escorts didnt come with chipped keys lol :thumb:

We used a dremel to put a chip sized hole in the original key

good mod that didnt see that comming lol i would have prob done that if i had thought of it , but at least ive got a secure ignition as mk1s normaly any key fits :thumb:

As far as I aware, the photo is of the aerial type receiver (Receiver Ring) which is located around the ignition barrel.

As long as you have the PATS control module/ECU that matches with ignition key transponders, then any Ford Receiver Ring, as long as it plugs into the loom/module/ECU will operate the PATS System.

I believe the Receiver Ring is not coded, it just send the coded signal from the transponder in the ignition key to the PATS control module/ECU.

yes true but mondeo ring is different wiring to escorts :thumb:

Why would you need to use a Receiver Ring from a different model car ?

If it not coded, just replace with a Receiver Ring that will plug into the ECU/PATS module/loom, why rewire ? Surely they're not that different that a Mondeo Ring wont fit an Escort or vise versa ?

The one in the photo, looks very much like an Escort Receiver ring and from memory, it doesn't look that different from a Mondeo Receiver Ring ?

Having tried this I can tell you that not only is the wiring to the plug different but so is the internal electronics. As said, the tranceiver doesn't store codes, but to be sure that it works you need to use matching transceiver ring and ECUs.

The op is fitting a 1600 Zetec complete with PATS ECU and matching loom into a Mk4. So, within the 1600 PATS Zetec loom there is a plug type connector that the receiver ring loom plugs into.

As long as a receiver ring from an Escort is used, surely it would plug straight it with no need to know the pin outs or to rewire.

So, find another 1600 Escort in the scrappers, although I don't believe engine size matters, unplug and remove receiver ring ?
