PATS key transceiver wiring.

The op is fitting a 1600 Zetec complete with PATS ECU and matching loom into a Mk4. So, within the 1600 PATS Zetec loom there is a plug type connector that the receiver ring loom plugs into.

As long as a receiver ring from an Escort is used, surely it would plug straight it with no need to know the pin outs or to rewire.

So, find another 1600 Escort in the scrappers, although I don't believe engine size matters, unplug and remove receiver ring ?

Basically yes, but I know that the early Escort ECU doesn't work with the later transceiver ring, so you need to match the MY as close as possible. Take a look at the ECU part number. The first 2 digits are the design year so look for a car of the same age. As you rightly say, engine size doesn't matter.

Understand now, thanks for clearing that up. Many years ago, when this PATS system first appeared, due to attempted theft with a scaffold bar, I replace a few ignition locks, complete with a barrel and receiver ring and other than having a new ignition barrel made up ( if damaged ), I dont ever recall having to match a receiver ring to the PATS module or ECU.

If only it were that simple. The 'plug' part of the loom is missing too.

I have a loom with no plug on it and a transciever with no plug on it. I was hoping to trace wire colours back into the loom at the ECU plug. I've figured this out now as various individuals have forwarded me wiring diagrams for PATs over the web.

Luckily its been overtaken by events and no longer necessary. Someone on xrtwo.com has offered me a full 'unchopped' loom with the transciever and wring intact so happy days.

I'll just use that with my existing (matching) key and ECU.

Cheers for all the info on this.
