Wide arch 5 door project

Hi everyone, been logging onto this site most days now for the lst year or so since i joined and Ive decided to finally open a project thread. I love looking at others so here I go with my own. :thumb:

Brief background: This escort is my 3rd car and the second escort ive owned. Its a pepper red 1.6 lx That looks a pile of poo in standard form......IMO :nutter:

Compared to a lot of people on this site i dont just like OE looking cars. I was 18 at the time of fast and the furious so its no surprise I do actually like some of the more....'in your face' kits out there (much to evo members dismay)! :innocent:

So for any of you who around 18 now just remember, 10 years ago you wouldnt even dream of driving nevermind modding F&F style! :pancake:

This was my car in its F&F day, fat bumpers, lexarse lights as ive come to know them and all the usual 'chav' type guff.

Now come on, THIS IS SOOOOOOO OLD dont start on me!

I decided I wanted to go a bit more oe look and bring it a bit up to date. Ive always fancied a wide arch cossie kit, and I happen to have a 5 door.....

Now I have to tell you, everything Ive bought for my car kitwise beforehand, ive always adapted something to make it slightly more individual...after all, thats what modding is about. :pancake:

So here we go, that start of my project. Long way to go and lots to do but as long as im part of this site, it constantly gives me a kick up the rear to get on and just do it.

Shame it's not too individual then :innocent:

Just make sure you keep on it and get it finished!

Right ......where to start. Iv been doing this for a while and have lots of pics. I wont bombared you with everything at once, i'll drip feed it and not neccessarily in the correct order I did it in

As I really got into gear durin the winte months, while the car was in the garage, in the dry, I decided to tart up the engine bay. It is a bit addictive to say the least. Its starts off with a colour coded rocker cover.... then an air filter... and it then just goes on and on and on...

Here's a pic of how manky it was to start with.

Stage 1: Painted rocker cover and manifold heat shield. I have to say that these may be subject to another colour in the future.

Now that look a bit cleaner if I say so myself. You may have noticed in the 1st pic that the bay in now matt black... And a few coloured extras chucked in for good measure.

I think the green looks alright actually, there are a few colours going on there, matt black, blue, pepper red, white and chrome, if more of it was colour coded i.e green Cam Cover or white bonnet stay and strut brace then it would look better. Look foward to seeing more.

Well the car's not gonna be pepper red! The white may change so I only have say, Matt black, green and chrome. Oh and I dont actually think the couple o blue hoses look out of place. Maybe like I said change the white ( was an early mod) to maybe green like you said

So here's some body work.

Im affraid I dont have any 'in progress' pics with thee front arches. Once I started I was on a roll and didnt think to snap em as I was going along. Its not a very good fitting kit to be honest. A real ball-ache to fit. From the pics (and in the flesh so to speak) you can see how the body line follows through nicely where its joined and blended in.

Here's a qhick shot of the rear with tha boot panel fitted. Forget the lights I already know what people think of these!

And yes the old twin exhaust will be gone too. Its a bit of a pain really cos untill they're gone I cant fit rear bumper w/spats to see if it lines up with the rear arch cos its in the way....Hacksaw any1 :innocent:

I did make one MASSIVE BOO BOO with the rear's. once fitted into place, I cut the door line then bridged the arch back to the door shut. I should of filled with expanding foam 1st then cut the door line. As it is the two sides arnt 100% flush in places. Pain in the ass, another thing to remedy. Trouble is you learn better for next time, I tell you now....Im not wide arching another 5 door in the future, no chance! :nutter:

Idea's for what? Body colour?

Rocker cover, maf and heat shield (all white atm) to tidy engine. I know what colour car will be but keepin it under wraps :thumb:
