Wide arch 5 door project

thinking of changing the motor by any chance lee?

i know this car is mainly about the style. and it will have shed loads!

it would be nice to have the guts to back up its looks though

Not REALLY thought about it. Yes it would be nice but I dont know. I would like a new old skool project but obviously that would mean this escort would have to go. Im starting to really like it again the more I see it come together. Once Its done and I clear all the crap out my garage I may have room to sit an engine in the corner. I would like to build one and seeing other people do them on here, and the fact they're pretty simple to work on is a bonus. Will have to wait and see as and when this ones done bodywork wise. :thumb:

A few snaps of my rear doors. I'll probably still have a play around as there's a couple lines in it I'm not 100% happy with. But any adjustments can be made on the car. The trouble is you cant tell how good it is until its painted. Its only then that it shows up any dodgy lines!

Here you can see the difference in the tram lines between those on the door and those in the fibreglass kit.

Sorry some of the pics are dark but its late and the flash makes them super bright! Most of these little flaws are only noticeable in certain light....or lack of.... but I may adjust some bits later on. Just 2 bumpers to go :thumb:

Absolutely fantastic, you going to Ford fair?

Cheers chaps. Yes I'm going to ford fair.....hopefully with the car. I will tell you now it looks lots better in the pics than in real ;( My spraying skills have picked up now towards the end of the car! Now the doors are on the car they are a LOT better than the body! Its nothing that shouldnt flat and polish out but looks a bit iffy at the mo. Theres also a few little thigs Ive spotted and am not happy with but cant do anything about it now. The skirts are crap fibreglass ones so are not able to fit great. What I thought would be ok in the start is not so good now the doors are on! Also theres a few bits that need smoothing on the rear doors that you cant see in the pics. just like a line in the top edge of the moulding that isnt quite flat as it runs into the actual door. You can only se it now its painted and in the right (or wrong) light.

TBH it was NEVER gonna be perfect. 1st time Ive done summit on this scale plus the fact I used crappy panels for it. But it is what it is and thats a bit of fun that looks good (if you dont look too close lol)

Anyway tonight I got rid of my smoothed out bumper light recess and ...er...put the recess back in! I was gonna have a no. plate on the bumper but decided against it now, thats after already smoothing out the no. plate light recess. Also partly because it had 2 very small hairline cracks from the join of the filler to the bumper. I still had my donor bumper in that garage so decided to cut out the recess and plastic weld it into this bumper. I was gonna just break out the filler and re-rub the hole but I must of gone mad previously and damaged that area so just popping out the filler wasnt an option. Pics show the process better but Im well chuffed. You would never know I smoothed over it in the 1st place :thumb:

Cut out the 'affected' area.

Measured and cut out the same size from the donor bumper.

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/P1050205_zps9b6e857c.jpg

Gently trimmed till it lay in place nicely.

I used a soldering iron to weld the areas together using a small section of bumper to melt in as filling material.

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/P1050207_zps60093788.jpg

Rubbed off all the rough edges.

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/P1050208_zps907db964.jpg

I melted in some more filling material into the small pin holes and then a quick skim off filler over the top.

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/P1050208_zps907db964.jpg

Rubbed down the filler and a layer of primer later.

Also masked up and chopped out the slatted area that was damaged. When the bumpers upright it does look lop sided like in the pic lol, It was measured out so the cut out curves at either end are matched. Will get this sprayed on Saturday along with my door handles. That only leaves the front bumper to work on.

Rear bumper all finished. Door handles have also been painted. Just leaves front bumper to crack on with.
