Cheers guys. Well Ive now got my new gasket, Instant gasket silicone, so leaky gasket should now be fixed once fitted. Also got some black high temp wrinkle finish paint to do the cam cover, Heat shield and MAF ( all of which are currently white) Also on order, should be here on tuesday are some green silicone hoses to replace the current blue ones. :thumb: Gona do the inlet manifold black too, should look good when done. On a stag do this weekend so nothin till next week im affraid. Oh and on the plus side, I previously had trouble with the car cutting out and not idling. Upon roughly stitchin the car back together to drive it to the garage from my driveway the car ........idled lovely. Only used 2 screws on the throttle housing just to hold it there, no gasket either and its seemed to of fixed itself......RESULT :drunk:

I have now re-fitted my chrome air flow cover and the green hoses dont look that bright in the flesh!! Looks a bit more luminous on the computer! I think Im missing the white already, maybe should of just changed the hoses!!!!! What do you reckon!??

Right chaps....After about 3 weeks of doing nothing due to shite weather and friend/family functions I've had the pleasure of cracking on today with some more.

I noticed that a lot of engine bays looked a lot cleaner than mine, In the sense that most of you all dont have a massive EFI branded inlet spoiling the scene. I decided to spray black to match the rocker and other bits. Lookd millions better than before. I've really come to like how it looks now.

Just a quick one of the rear arch being blended in using my favourite stuff :innocent:

And also got this. In the words of Rolph Harris 'can you tell what it is yet'?

Engine bay looks sweet. I think you should paint the water bottle and power steering bottle now. I think that's my next job. See one sprayed black the other day, looks tidy. I guess you would have to check the levels from looking inside the hole, or only spraying the top half so you can still see the fill levels?

And I have NO idea what the package is haha ;)

Looks good so far mate, glad the glass fibre helped.

Another product that may help you, upol dolphin glaze mixes exactly the same as normal body filler.

Dolphin glaze is a self leveling polyester filler, when you have got your filler to shape use this as a final skim, it's very thin but ideal for blending in rubs down really easy, we use it at work and block it down with p120 then p180 for a finer finish.

Don't know if it would be of help to you mate just a thought.

Dolphin Glaze is brilliant stuff! It works on the vertical too! One thing with rubbing glass fibre back is that if it's hollow behind it it will flex and concave slightly so you can be chasing the invisible dent! Some scrunfled up paper or rags stuffed behind help a lot.

EDIT: Just looked at your pics again and see you wont get any paper in there, just have to go easy on it lol!

Cheers for the hint mate. Always good to learn new things. :thumb:

Gotta pull my finger out soon! Got thurs and fri off, want to get the passenger side all primed then a mate will weld in my new sills on saturday :)

And Dan, your right about fibreglass, when you rub it too far and it starts bending! I encountered this on the drivers side previously. Ive learnt lots of what to/not to do's and so hoping this passenger side will go a lot easier, plus I've not got the filler cap to worry about! X( Most has been fillered now and I put 1 last coat of filler on, on sunday before puting the car away till thursday. Hopefully I can then prime the whole passenger side. Still the boot and roof to do, but after sat I can seal the underside of the car and then look at fitting my cossie skirts :P

Little update for you all. Got a long weekend as it was my birthday yesterday so 4 days off, woohoo :D Did the thing with the mrs yesterday so today was allabout the car. Took most of the day to achieve the following:

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/Project%20Escort/car001-9.jpg

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/Project%20Escort/car002-8.jpg

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/Project%20Escort/car003-8.jpg

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/Project%20Escort/car004-6.jpg

I left some tiny bits of filler to rub down tomorrow, as the boy needed feeding I thought I'd better call it a day. Hopefully rub down the passenger front door then primer the whole passenger side. Still leaves me with the door shuts but I can do that any time. All this sanding from today was the main body of the work to do!

Another thing for tomorrow, a mate's comin over to weld in 2 replacement sills so she'll be nice and clean. 1 side is worse than the other but thought it would make more sense to just replace both, in the know that their both sound. Once fitted I can crack on with the skirts, really looking forward to it.

Comments as always please.

Heres my mates brother in law Ed, happy as a pig in ****!

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car001-2.jpg

Upon inspection, the rusty sills were not as bad as first thought. He said, and I quote 'this is actually good condition for a car this age, I would of expected a lot worse'. That made me feel better right away. Only small patches needed cutting and replacing. Once done, I sprayed with some rust proof/killer stuff from halfords and smothered it in car underseal. Keep that ol rust at bay :vangry:

Here's once patch quickly photo'd just for the thread. I told him didnt have to be too neat n tidy cos of skirts fitting over the top.

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car003-2.jpg

Side profile of wider arches. Passenger side (this pic) all primed up freshly today.

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car002-2.jpg

And one random one from the front. I love how much wider it is, looks mean. :innocent:

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/car004-1.jpg

List of stuff to follow:

Prime passenger side door shuts.

Prime boot/boot shut.

Prime roof.

Paint wheels.

Underseal wheel arches.

More to do than that obviously but those are the next steps.

Comments welcome
