Cooling system flush carried out yesterday, got some filth out of it, so that's something.

 

Also offered the rear wheels up on the front, they fit, just about, catch very slightly on full bump at the very front of the car, but i have ordered an arch roller as well, so they never will.

Also today i fitted the new temperature gauge. The fan switch kicks in at 95 degrees. According to my gauge that is very nearly 100 degrees. So not too inaccurate, also down the bypass doing 56mph at 4000RPM it's running at 100 degrees on the gauge. I will make a rear rad scoop next week.

Imp National is on July 31st so i'll be heading up to Cambridge in it, i think i'll keep a pair of Minilites to fit 185/60/13 tyres to for motorway driving, Bring the speed up while maintaining the same revs. This shows you how incredibly low geared the Imp is.

You'd probably get better cooling performance if you ducted the radiator, rather than just point air at it. Path of least resistance and all that.

Cheers for the comments. Aye Stu, i will be making ducting next week for the rear one, i will leave the front one for another day when it's running just a front rad as i don't think the heater pipes pass enough coolant to cool the engine down enough, the reason being as when i drive it around normally, it all gets hot, if i hammer it down the bypass, it's stone cold, so it already has enough air.

I guess you're all due an update. I've been pretty busy with private work and other things to have much done to this.

 

I'll try start where i left off.

 

RIght, i ordered the other two wheels for the front and the head gasket blew on my way to work. Luckily no major damage was done, just a bit of head warping which needed minor skimming, however because i needed the car i fitted my sport head from my Imp stock, this has larger valves and ports

Then in early August, i guess the inevitable happened. After all this time and money, some Indian bloke decided not to look at the mini roundabout, i'm still baffled how he didnt see me, anyway i was on the mini roundabout turning right, half way round it and he came from my left and wiped me out.

The insurance gave me the go ahead to fix it a couple of weeks later. They had admitted liability and it was all to be paid for by them.

The bonnet is still unpainted for the moment. It reacted with the primer, so i ordered some sealer, just haven't had the time (or weather) to paint it yet.

Next on the list was a big brake conversion. I wanted 4 pots, but i'm unsure how stable they're going to be at stopping it (due to no weight in the front) so i didn't want to go out and buy billet aluminium just yet. Metro Turbo was the solution. At £49.99 trade, recon from Euro car parts it was definitely worth a go.

Mock up here. The problem i then had was finding a vented disc in around 240mm that had enough offset to keep the caliper behind the wheel. So i decided to use the Ka vented discs i had from before, cut the middle out and have a custom bell made up to suit. This is still in the making.

 

Found a nice blue caliper paint

I then ordered a high efficiency (extra core) radiator for the rear and made a scoop to fit and very effective it is too.

Now with my added stopping power, i need some added going power. This will be on another engine no doubt, but it was a steal at £400 and unused.

Tuned up the old girl today, started to run a bit rich, carbs had gone out of balance, so dialed them and the ignition timing in. Lovely job. Also fitted a Bilge blower which backs onto the front rad as a demisting device as i can barely see when its wet. Calipers turned out nice too.

 

Also a customer/friend of mine came down with his FN2 Civic, we sat down and talked suspension, looks like i've got a nice PJ lined up, fit coilovers and dial them up.
