Neil-Serenade
Morning all, i was just wondering what people's thoughts/suggestions were on having their car sprayed using this method as i have thought about having a full respray & have looked into the idea of this & like the look more & more. Its just something a little bit different but i have only seen the matt/satin black out & about & mine is pepper red so was wondering if anyone has got any pictures (possibly Fords) & maybe give me some help/advice on going down this route. Any help would be much appreciated, cheers again
SLEEMAN
its a very risky spray job doing matt and satin colours and the painter has to make sure the booth they are spraying in is super clean and new filters are used etc because any slight dirt defect will screw up the paint job because you can't cut it down and polish it back. if you want that colour how about wrapping the car in matt or satin vinyl? makes an awesome effect! Neil-Serenade
Evening mate thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I know actually having the paint like that is a bit risky because you apparantly have to be careful when it comes to tree sapp & bird muck, have to clean it straight away and where my car is in drive, i would be out cleaning it off all time. I havenn't heard of wrapping it in vinyl, does it give safe effect, is yours done that way? How much etc and do you have any pictures. Thanks again, much appreciated
cougaruk
You could just use a matt clear coat..... Lechler 2K Matt Clear Coat Lacquer Macrofan HS 2000 1L.This Lechler 2K Matt Lacquer product leaves a dull (matt) but hard and resistant surface. Used correctly and with a 2 pack activator the product will result in a long lasting surface. http://www.autopaintsbrighton.co.uk/lechle...0-1l-1524-p.asp
Neil-Serenade
Morning mate thanks for the suggestion. That seems like the best suggestion so far because i assume you wouldnt have the worry of having to clean the car everytime something got on it if it was matt/satin paint, and you wouldnt have the difficulty of cutting vinyl to fit all over the car. Have you used this on your car? and sorry to sound thick but whats the 2 pack aviator? Cheers again
Neil-Serenade
Morning again everyone. Thanks to SLEEMAN & cougaruk for their input, is much appreciated. Just wondering if anyone else out there has any hints, tips or thoughts on the idea. Would really like to see an example of this on a Escort so i can get a good idea of what i maybe getting myself into. Cheers again

Thanks again, much appreciated   Have you used this on your car? and sorry to sound thick but whats the 2 pack aviator? Cheers again  Neither of these guys have a matt finish car, they're just giving you some suggestions. I dont know of anyone who has a matt escort on here (or any matt car for that matter) Cutting vynl and fitting it to the car is a job for pros really, or someone with a lot of patience and spare money to waste lots of vynl (an inexperienced person doing a bonnet for instance will probably have to start over several times due to getting creases etc) As for 2 pack activator, its a solvent you mix with the paint/laquer. 2 pack paints need to be used with their respective activator/hardener Matt laquer over matt black paint sounds like a winner of an idea
Neil-Serenade
Like you said mate, vinyl wrap would be very time consuming but whats the price compared to painting it? I dont plan on changing the colour, just the look of the finish although i do like white. So you couldnt use a matt/silk laquer on ordinary/metalic paints? Cheers again. Cheers again. Wheeler dealers had a full wrap done on a campervan on an episode years ago, i think they paid a grand... You probably can put matt laquers over a metallic colour coat but im not sure it'll be a good effect.
Andyb0127
Matt/satin laquer can be applied over solvent/waterbase paints. Its just a clear coat with additives in to give the matt/satin finish, but as sleeman said you have no room for error with it and the painter needs to be experienced not some diy painter as they will only mess it up,everything needs to be O.C.D clean. vinyl wrap for an escort with a decent company doing it, as weve just had a mercedes viano at work vinyll wrapped that cost three grand, when i asked the guy about it to do a medium car they would charge around £1500 to do it, so not much difference between that or a full repaint  its down to personal preference, but you need hundred percent trust in the painter that would do the paint job, anyone can say they can paint ive seen shyte painters who i wouldnt even let them paint my push bike and ive seen fantastic ones. but you also need to make sure every part of the preperation is spot on,always remember its the prep work that makes the paint job........................................... SLEEMAN
take andy's advice mate as he a pro spray painter, i'm a spray painter as well but not as well experienced as andy but we both know that painting matt is a super hard job and any defects etc the whole job has to be redone. i know the owner of SCC in st.albans had his focus rs wrapped in an metallic grey and that looks awesome! if theres a professional place local to your area go to them and just ask what options they have available and see what examples of work they have done!  for example carbon era based in bristol just seen their online website and their prices are very good!! check them out: http://www.carbon-era.co.uk/ also its a ton cheaper wrapping your car in vinyl and gives an all round even finish! average custom spray jobs £2500, wrapping around £1000
Neil-Serenade
Afternoon guys. Blimey, thats given me a lot to think about, dont know where to start lol. I really appreciate all your input guys, is much appreciated. Looking at it now im not sure if the full matt black style effect would look good in pepper red. I think it looks stunning in black or white but unsuure on that colour. I know i wouldnt want a carbon fibre effect wrapping, just a plain effect where the paint isn't shiny but doesn't look dulled i guess. Sorry to confuse you guys lol. SLEEMAN, i dont suppose the guy you know would do it for cheaper if i paid cash in hand and purchased the vinyl myself? Worth a try, cant blame me for trying lol. Cheers again guys, much appreciated.
