Had a great Sunday afternoon. Went out and while sitting in traffic saw guy behind chatting away on his phone, traffic moves and stops again well the guy behind didn't straight into the back of the escort.

Tried to deny all knowledge of being on his phone, even after I said on we will call the police they will be able to check your phone records with that he admitted he was. But as it was low impact no one was hurt decided not to worry about police, got his details. Claims are going through at moment just waiting for accessor to look at my escort which were pretty sure will be written of as it needs tailgate repair, repair back panel, new rear bumper.

But have just bought a tailgate and rear bumper from danzetec.

Doesnt look bad in pics but thank god I didn't have new tailgate and bumper on it.

Obviously the insurance company have been informed I have the parts to repair it, as I don't want to loose the car because of the condition it's in and I know all the history of the car from new.

why tell them you have the bits to fix, they will think it was like that pre crash if you had the parts,

let them pay you out and buy it back then fix it yourself..

i dosn't look that bad ,but as you know with newer cars all the damage is underneath our work van was hit and there was no visable damage but when the bumper was removed the rear panel was pushed in ,unbelievable realy .bumpers now are just cosmetic not like the old days when you had a strong bit of steel/chrome across the front and rear :thumb:

Only reason I already had the parts is because rear bumper was cracked where some one we has hit it, and the tailgate is rotten under the spoiler.

Was just being honest with insurance company they did say doesn't really make any difference, just waiting see what happens when accesser looks at it as we almost certain it will be written off, so if it is we're hoping to agree with insurance about keeping car and a settlement figure, not that it will be that much even tho the condition of the car.

as your claiming off the other guys insurance you will probably get to keep the car also.

my daughters car got hit and was told if it was to be written off due to beyond economical repair then the other insurance company would not ask for the car and i would get a settlement and do what i wanted with the car.

may do same with you.

I would have still reported him, would have made the claim easier

Depending on how insurers want to play it - I told them I didnt want my j reg corolla written off for a dented door (guy reversed out of parking space without looking, drove forward and did it again) and got his insurance to pay out £450, car was still hpi clear and I got to keep my car and repair it myself (admitedly I did just knock the dent out with a block of wood and a hammer and left it with a slightly rippled door skin as it was already a bit bashed

Same happened to our escort about six months ago, slow traffic and hit by a driver who was on the phone.outside of bumper didn't even have a scratch but the mounting points were broken on the back of the bumper and the rear panel of the car had moved in. i thought it would be written off but the insurance agreed to repair it. new bumper, pulled the rear panel out and realigned the tailgate.

I wouldn't have told the insurance company to be fair, then again, if i rolled my car, i still wouldn't, aslong as i didn't wipe out another car or injure anyone, i'd just repair it myself. Insurance companies are a total waste of time IMO.

Glad you're alright and there's not too much damage.

Report him to who?

Just ask for a Cash in Lieu settlement so it doesn't go down as a write off. even if only a cat C or D.

It's a modern approach for the 'at-fault' insurers to proactively deal with your claim to prevent expensive claims coming in from credit hire companies etc.

Exactly the route i went down. And got paid out a cash settlement with keeping the car, and not recorded as a write off.
