Will be selling my mk1 once I have replaced IM gasket, wishbones, drop links and MOT'd it

As I'm doing a delivery job I needed something economical to run about in and maybe doing a new job thats about 50 miles round trip a day so have gone dirty diesel.

anyway, browsing ebay for diesel manuals ending soon on ebay and came across this:

Y reg mk3 TDDI (Turbo Diesel Direct Injection) zetec in black. Tax till end July and test till 4th June all for £500

already had clutch and DMF replaced 25K ago and now has SMF.

had a few faults listed on the advert

slight boost leak - yet to trace but doesnt affect drive, still boosts hard

had wrong better (50Ah battery instead of 70Ah - I had one in the garage so changed it)

front fogs dont work - will look into

interior boot release button and boot lid button dont work but key does - fixed with new battery

fan not working on speed one and a/c not on 2, 3 & 4 - £20 resistor and 5 minutes fixed that

broken rear number plate - changed front and back

radio doesnt work as radio - only CD player - fitting new HU with bluetooth

few scuffs and scrapes - arranged to get a new front bumper for free that I then need to paint (will be rattle cans)

interior grubby - have a mk3 ghia x leather interior in my garage anyway as they fit mk2's but I fitted recaros in that instead so was just going to sell it

spare wheel has no tyre - getting new spare for free

rides a bit weird, he changed odd springs at different times and one is still original - friends selling me his old shocks and springs from his TDDi when he fitted coilovers for £40

Rear washer pump doesnt work (common fault)

I've decided to smarten it up a bit as I will be using it so much - ST will be staying but will be a track/show/fun car

anyway, done these bits so far:

ok, actually did those 2 yesterday.

changed this:

now my fan and aircon is fully functioning :)

didnt have a tax disc holder when I bought it:

http://i7.tagstat.com/image08/8/520f/00i2001O58f.jpg

dont like this gear knob:

so put this one in:

horrid:

not:

new plate

http://i7.tagstat.com/image07/8/520f/00ib001O58f.jpg

rears on but I didnt take a pic

and have fitted LED interior, footwell (love ford - wiring and bulb holder there, 30p's worth bulbs not), number plate lights and have ones for the front sidelights but I'll do them when I do the HIDs

So far, including the other bits I have bought on ebay including facelift rear lights (not the ones with chrome), new HU (sony MEX-BT2500), gel overlays from DMB including key fob insert and wheel centres, flat wipers, HIDS and all the bits above I hve spent little over £100 on it. Will have sub and amp too but the ones I bought for the mk1 so not spending more. Only further expense on this car will be whatever the boost leak is, some paint, a back bumper and consumables like tyres, brakes, servicing etc.

Looks ok, what mpg do these return, wouldnt a smaller petrol workhorse be more economic (I thought so hence buying a neat 1.25 Fiesta zetec).

well I've done 300 miles to half a tank so far - havent had to re-fill it yet so don't know exact figure as this model doesnt have trip computer. But my friends one which is quite modified with hybrid turbo, uprated intercooler, de-cat, straight through exhaust, resonator bypass, tdci inlet pipe, EGR blanked off (mines just disconnected). K&N panel filter and custom remap gets around 47 with mainly urban driving.

Wont be doing mine to same extent as his. Every bush is Poly, coilovers etc.

Will say I am quite impressed with the pace. obviously not a match for my ST but not as slow as I thought.

0-60 is 9.5, 115 bhp, 280NM torque. I'll be dynoing on 29th april just for a laugh as doing rolling road day through mondeoworld @ dynodaze and as its my club I'm gonna go and as its £30 for 2 power runs, callibration run and print out (and for extra £10 can have AFR or boost read out (£20 for both)) I thought why not

To fill it cost about £70 @ 144.9 which isnt too bad

plus I'm big, fiesta little - smallest car I can have is focus sized and with a child on the way mk3 is alot safer

Hi Mate

You got yourself a bargain there.

I highly recommend you blank off the EGR asap and also take off the inlet manifold and clean it out, it will be full of dirty horrible gunk from egr, I have just done mine on my transit and it is 100% better, also I fitted a K&N Panel Filter.

As for a remap, I got mine done from martin @ vantuner.com he also does postal remaps I posted mine £150 got it back a couple of days later, absoulutly spot on mine was 75hp now about 100hp loads more torque and even better on fuel, also putting about 300mls to 70 ltr tank of fuel helps reduce wear on the fuel pump.

Nice car I fancy a family workhorse like that myself.

Cheers

I'd take off the stickers you'd added and actually put the tax in the corner of the windscreen rather than the middle.

Eh, what tax disc in the centre?

I agree it looks like a perfect bargain motor, and suggest you dont do anything silly to it. It doesnt need gel overlays here there and everywhere, the standard badging is fine, fix its niggles and just drive it.

thanks all. Only doing gel overlays as badges are a bit damaged and arent that pricey. wheel centres, grill, boot, steering wheel and centre caps all for £24 :)

EGR is already disconnected but will get a proper blank off later but otherwise not much else. doing leather interior a) because I have it and b) interior is rather grubby.

Decided to use bits I had lying around

mounted the amp and sub I was gonna have in the mk1 to back of larger section leather rear seat ready for me to fit it :)

bought some genuine ford floor mats off ebay so waiting on them too - only £20 as the drivers one in it doesnt work as it has big hole through it

annoyingly I now have to play with central locking as front passenger door is playing up but still not a big deal

Still enjoying this car though - making good workhorse and the sub uses no boot up so I'm happy to use it

nope, just seeing what drivel you all will spout :)

btw, ST24 is a mk2, not a mk3. Don't own, nor will I ever own a mk3

This is all.

I never wanted one but its what came up with ending soon on ebay, sub £500 diesels not to far away

won it for £465.72 and he said in advert extra £50 for tax so I said I would have it and he just said call it £500

It was either this or a S reg Rover 620SLDi in a sort of gold colour like met beige with an all beige interior that was slower, thirstier, more exoensive to tax and insure and maintain but 15K less miles
