Old man insurance

I renewed mine for my escort gti £267 fully comp, would have cost more if i just insured third party why is that? less cover costs more.

I find that most insurers don't want to do third party only on older cars.

Don't look for much logic, some quotes will even go down if you put in named drivers.

Last year my insurance risen by £50 from a 100 BHP diesel to 170 BHP petrol worth triple. No sense.

Edit doesn't cooperate...

One of my friends just changed from 06 plate Focus ST to 10 plate RS - again RS is limited edition car worth more than 3x STs, he was really bracing himself and in the end his insurance went up by.... £150.

Logic has nothing to do with it, you are quite right!

£1400 for me to insure a focus RS (rare car and really quick) - £2100 for an old shape S3...much more common!

An astra derv was only £200 less than the RS to insure...

My Mexico is £300 this year fully comp.

Thats with a clean licence, Full NCB, garaged, 5k per year as 2nd car and it just social use only

What gripes me is @ 39 years old, driving a 1.6 you can say its small practical economical motoring , but £300 is a insult as its no Cozzie :vangry:

To give you a idea of other cars, I had a pug 1.9TD last year.. same cover but £174 to insure WTF??

No sense to insurances

insurance is all about risk factoring, your risk to the company based on your age / occupation / motoring history / postcode etc. Then the car and its risk to the company; e.g. if they've had a lower percentage of write offs / claims with that model it'll be cheaper.

Just got my renewal through at £285 FC for the year on the mazda

£500-ish a year on a 2.0 130BHP Toyota... I'm under 25 until Oct with 0 NCB and mrs with 2-3 years NCB as named driver (dropped insurance price by £50 by adding another driver, not that she will ever drive it... but she is insured if she wants to).

Being under 25 with no NCB means I get quotes that start at £1200 for nearly every car!

Bad logic by insurers also... I can insure a 200bhp+ V6 cheaper than a 45bhp 1.0l by about £500. - All bigger, older, more powerful cars are cheaper to insure for me than little runabouts.

£500-ish was done on a Classic Car Policy. Because the car is an 89 it just about fits in with classic policies at most insurers.

Only 2 conditions:

1. I need to have access to another vehicle that I am insured on and use more often than this car. (that [according to the insurer and their terms and conditions] can be the motorbike until it's sold and/or being a named driver on the mrs car which we use more often than this one for the fuel economy)

2. I drive it less than 6,000 miles a year. (not a problem... I've done 200 since I bought it!)

Only issue:

Cannot earn NCB on a classic policy, although in theory classic policy should be cheaper next year and so should normal insurance as I'll be 25+.

- If all else fails... Flog car for probably more than I paid for it and buy something cheaper to insure.
