embarrassment is stepping in a dog turd while out for the first time with a new bint on your arm.......... owning a Metro is far far beyond embarrassing, Hitler performed less forgivable acts.

why thank you. It was bloody good fun and I had a tantrum when it died, I had a local garage lined up to repair and my 'dad' stepped in and suggested that I should get the Rover garage to repair it and he would pay the difference. fair enough I thought and had it towed half way across Bristol by a mate, when the bill came in, it quadrupled and my dad buggered off from the deal!! left me with a shell of a car and an engine in boxes on the back seat and not enough money to have the car rebuilt! (it was a result of this I got into learning how to build engines and car modding - I suppose all tragedies in life can be harnessed for a positive outcome) had a right go at the garage and my dad, didn't speak to him for 2 years after! was a good thing the compo came in and I got my first Escort - every cloud and all that. ho - hum. ended up selling the gti to a young apprentice at the garage accross the road so he could rebuild for his first car, so it went to a good home i think. i ratted a rover 100...which is practically a metro

really good fun that was and the looks we got were awesome!

yeah, the 100 replaced the metro after Rover bought out Austin :) sounds like fun. do you remember the horrible slatted grills of the Austin metro's, that was my first attempt at carbon fibre with a cheap sheet of cf look stuff, that looked more like a chess board from Les Smith. those where the days, when petrol was 55p a litre! :) ah memories. The first Austin metro I had ended up being used for my A-level art and I sprayed the bonnet and the front doors with Metallica album covers, looked fcuking awsome :) got an A for art but devalued the car at trade in time. haha.

Do you mean the MG metro?

First one was an Austin Metro, second metro was a Rover Metro Gti. I believe that MG took over from Austin and Rover bought it off MG before turning it into the 100 series.

I'm sorry, but I took out many an XR2 from the lights, the metro was just so much lighter it was just that bit quicker off the blocks! correct me if I'm wrong, but the XR2 was still carbed where the gti had electronic injectors!! The GTI was a beast and stuck to the road like nothing else it was like driving a go-kart without the spinning!

yeh XR2's were carbed, and despite being single cam 8 valve....still produce more power than the same sized zetec engine....anyone else confused lol

nice one with the metallica albums, we used marvel comics on the boot and it looked pretty sick, standard rusted bonnet, matt black everything else with the good old suitcase on the top, with all the drag we created sticking bits to it the little 1.1 would barely move lol ill have to dig out the old computer and see if i can find some pics

Because there is no power gain from carb to injection!
