Ecu

Hopefully...with any luck this will be the last wiring question I have to ask - I feel like the penny has finally dropped and I've got some understanding of the EDIS and PATS. To cut a long story short, I've put a pre PATS loom (which I believe has no red chip or transponder on the barrel - correct me if I'm wrong) and external EDIS (which I believe it to be because of the black motorcraft box with vacuum hoses behind the passenger headlight - again correct me if I'm wrong). Now the ECU currently in there is a 2FCD (XR3i 105ps) which is obviously a external EDIS and pre pats. I've got a DESK ecu (which is pre pats but internal EDIS so that won't work). A 130 spec ECU would be a temporary measure but I'm thinking I'm never going to get a 2.0 ecu to fit my loom. The engine is obviously a 2.0 with 2.0 injectors, 130 manifolds (I think it may still have a 130 throttle body). Seeing as I had it running at 1 o'clock this morning on the 105 ecu, everything mechanically works.

Basically, I understand that my DESK is useless and will need to be changed for a suitable alternative...but which? I have been looking around at ECUs and can't seem to pinpoint an external EDIS pre PATS - 130 or 2.0. If some kind person would be so kind to say "Yeah, you need such and such ECU" I will be eternally grateful :).

desk is external pats i dont think they ever made a 2.0 non pats ecu. so i think you got right ecu but wrong loom i think you need a loom from a car with external pats 1993-1995 :thumb:

It might not be plug and play but shouldn't be too hard..

DESK is external PATS so as per the guide on here that's easy to bypass by grounding one/few pins at the ECU (can't remember how many)

Only four injectors so moving those wires around if necessary is a simple job

EDIS stuff is only a few wires and as DESK is internal it doesn't really matter I suspect

You'd have to get a pin-out of both ECU's and do a side by side comparison

I've used the autodata diagrams and there are a couple of differences with sensors and stuff. I could remove the pats from the ecu if the pins are the same, but I'm not sure about edis...it's connected to the coil pack (possibly via the ecu). I haven't got the know how when it comes to electrics...it's always been my biggest downfall hence all the recent questions :(

You run the wires from the coil pack straight to the ECU pins 58 and 59. Get the NGA diagram from Autodata and follow the non-PATS pinouts on that.

Right i've had a look into this...

The differences between the Escort and DESK pin outs.. excluding lots of extra stuff on the Mondeo ECU you don't need on the Escort (or are not supported)..

DESK/DEEP/DEWY ECU

Pin 4 - Your tacho is driven today by pin 11 on the EDIS module. Pin 4 on the DESK ECU replaces this signal.

Pin 51 - Injector 1 - Move from pin 58 on the early Escort loom

Pin 52 - Injector 2 - Move from pin 59 on the early Escort loom

Pin 55/56 - Crank Position Sensor - move from pins 5 & 7 on the EDIS module - use shielded cable

Pins 58/59 - Coil pack - move from pins 10 & 12 on EDIS module

I'm seeing some conflicting info with pings 58/59 for the injectors on the early Escort loom so you may need to verify those.

Here's a pinout of the EDIS-4 module, excluding the pin 11 tacho output.

I think that should be it. SteveB - anything I may have missed?
