The main problem here is that most newcomers could never really break the main crowd. This was a pretty tight community imo, and when the popular members of the forum started to leave, there just weren't enough quality posts from people who cared.

Shame, this was good community for a long time.

I recognise a few names in this thread - hope you guys are well!

hmmmmmmmmm could it perhaps have something to do with the fact that regardless if I "refresh" page or hit the "view new post" button Im getting zero results back and have to instead manually dig through the forums for the new posts I know exist.

For me its annoying, for a newcomer looking for a quick answer to some random query itd be enough to just feck off to another site instead

is it just something on my end or is this a new evo hiccup?

It was inevitable. The Mk5/6 Escort was never going to be a classic so over time it was always going to die out.

Most cars have about a 15 year lifespan. Escort production ended around that time ago. Coincidence? I doubt it.

Most of the newbie threads here now are about people trying to get old cheap escort van work horses fixed. That makes sense, people are much more likely to get their work van fixed than but a new one. Cars don't have the same dependency.

I'm not convinced by the whole growing up comments. Sure some people will leave because their priorities change, but 'addicts' will always come back for their fix, as long as there's a fix available. Not much of a fix here now, though.

I met one of my best mates on Evo, and another good friend I keep in touch with. In fact we're planning on building a Ford based drag car in the next year or so. Not an Escort though!

I've not owned a Ford since 2006, but still have an interest. Probably something to do with working at the blue oval from 2008-2014. May go back one day. And even with buying a new house and a demanding job, I still check the site every now and again.

Would be a shame if it were to die, got a few good memories from my time on here, most notably doing my car up and getting it on the show stand. It was one of the best things I've done and I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm glad it made a lasting impression on some people, thanks Craig :)

Some years have past since then but I have logged on from time to time to see what was going on, nothing grabbed my attention enough to post and the timeframe from logging on unfortunately got further apart. I do miss the shows and some of the stuff that used to go on in here. This place was a big part of my life at one time, every spare minute I'd be logging on, morning, noon and night, lol. Good times.

I have one picture of a concept mk5 escort cosworth and ive always said to myself, one day i'll build that but the years seem to be slipping by rather fast and the supply of good mk5 RS2K's within my limited budget keep on rising. Who knows, I may just get lucky one day and the fun can begin all over again. :thumb:

I owned escorts when I was younger. I'll admit, I grew out of them. There were bigger cars out there and I love a big car.... I miss my pepper red Finesse and the black 3door Si I had, they were brilliant cars at the time. I still regret selling my first scrote, in 2008.... but times do move on.

I nearly bought an escort again late last year.... well, I was after a cheep GTi..... but couldnt find a GTi at all, let alone a cheep one! There arent many escorts out there and being a less desireable car, the scrap yards were full of them. Now there arent many tidy examples left for sale, you will just have the hard core escort champs still keeping that old ford running.

I might have another one, one day. But for now, Ive started putting cars in my back garden......so I cant afford the space right now.

LOL.

  • 3 weeks later...

I was thinking about EVO the other day and wondering if anyone was still around! I havent logged on for an absolute age as I have been living abroad and haven't even driven for 2 years! Shame to see it going so quiet and I do miss my Escorts but I dont think I would buy one now, I would end up spending too much money on it no doubt.

afternoon all. not been on here for a long long time. I have justed seen how dead it is. It used to be a really busy forum back in the day when I had my escort. I even looked out for the ford fair stand last year but didnt see it? unless I missed it.

Some of you may remember my car.

I still see some of the old lot are still on here! markymark I saw your escort for sale not long back.

Just re the growing up & moving on thing!! I started out with Mark 1 & Two Escorts, Thirty years on, I've got a van and an estate (mk6's), demanding job & all that and have owned loads of other makes & models inbetween. What this site has is a wealth of info that can help young & youngish (in slightly older bodies-like mine lol!) I'm 50, I'm don't have a  "Old Fords never die, just keep on getting faster" mentality, & lets face it, they are not the best constructed car on the planet, not particularly fast by modern standards, although the cossies were quick for their time & there are admittedly, some insanely quick tuned up jobbies out there!! But I like them for the fact they are functional, easy to work on, & spares are in abundance!! And to be honest, my two have grown on me over the years. I suppose any motor you work on & take care off grows on you over the years. Anyway, just an older chaps perspective on things for what it's worth!! :thumb:

And there are some beautiful examples on this site still knocking around & I really respect some of the amazing work you guys have done on your esscies here over the years. I modded Zephyrs like you guys modded your Esscies, & I'm still modding my Esscies too!!

Anyway enough of my ramblings, to cut it short, nothing to do with age & moving on!

Been a while since I looked in too.

It is sad to see how it's slowly dying but, as Stu suggests, it's the natural order of things as cars move out of everyday circulation.

I had some great times on here, and a lot of support from the members during the most trying time in my life (almost ten years ago now!).

My 'Scort's long gone, and I'm currently pootling around in a bog-standard Fiesta in a hat; or, more accurately, a "Fusion"  - according to the badge on the back.

I haven't entirely lost the modding bug; I still make little changes here and there! But I no longer want a car that stands out, and I have knee trouble going back to my karate days that makes a car where I don't have to crouch to get in through the door essential.

To anyone still around - especially those who helped me keep it together back in the day - Thanks for all the memories (and, of course, thanks for all the fish!)
