mk5 Ford Escort ABS Fault Codes for Teeves mkIV

Escort Si-130

Recommended Posts

This is for the ABS system on the mk5 Ford Escort RS2000, Si, XR3i with rear disc brake axle.

Looking at the Grahams Granada Page. The fault codes for the ABS on the mk5 Escort RS2000 are below. Remember to test it, connect the code reader to the connector by the ABS pump with the ignition off. Once connected, switch the fault code reader to ON, then after turn the ignition ON. It would then start flashing the codes.

CODE = UNIT (Type/Position) = FAULT
00 = ECU/- = Supply voltage or ECU
10 = -/- = Invalid code
11 = -/- = Electrical interference
17 = System Relay/- = Voltage supply or wiring
21 = Main Valve/- = Valve, wiring or connections
22 = Solenoid valve/LH Front inlet = Valve, wiring or connections
23 = Solenoid valve/LH Front outlet= Valve, wiring or connections
24 = Solenoid valve/RH Front inlet= Valve, wiring or connections
25 = Solenoid valve/RH Front outlet= Valve, wiring or connections
26 = Solenoid valve/Rear inlet = Valve, wiring or connections
27 = Solenoid valve/Rear outlet = Valve, wiring or connections
31 = Speed sensor/LH Front = Sensor circuit
32 = Speed sensor/RH Front = Sensor circuit
35 = Speed sensor/LH Front = Sensor signal
36 = Speed sensor/RH Front = Sensor signal
41 = Speed sensor/LH Front = Sensor signal
42 = Speed sensor/RH Front = Sensor signal
55 = Speed sensor/LH Front = Sensor signal long term
56 = Speed sensor/RH Front = Sensor signal long term
61 = Reservoir and pressure switch = Switches, pump motor, relay or wiring
62 = Pedal travel sensor = Sensor resistance or wiring
63 = Motor/- = Motor, voltage supply, relay or wiring
64 = Hydraulic Modulator = Motor, voltage supply, relay or wiring
65 = G force sensor/- = Sensor or wiring (4x4 only)
75 = Speed sensor/LH Front = Sensor circuit intermittent fault
76 = Speed sensor/RH Front = Sensor circuit intermittent fault
79 = Vehicle spin recognised = -

ABS Hydraulic Modulator Solenoid Valve Testing
To test the wheel sensors, with the ignition off, disconnect the ABS module plug. To test the inlet/outlet solenoids as indicated by the extracted fault code(s) measure the resistance(s) between ABS Module Connector pin 3, and the relevant pins as listed at Table 2. Compare the measured values with the expected values at Table 2.

Table 2
Solenoid = Pins = Expected reading (ohms)
LH Front Inlet = 20 & 3 = 5.4 to 8.2ohms
LH Front Outlet = 22 & 3 = 3.0 to 4.5ohms
RH Front Inlet = 38 & 3 = 5.4 to 8.2ohms
RH Front Outlet = 21 & 3 = 3.0 to 4.5ohms
Rear Inlet = 54 & 3 = 5.4 to 8.2ohms
RH Front Outlet = 36 & 3 = 3.0 to 4.5ohms

If any test fails, repeat the test at the sensor connector to determine if it is the sensor or the vehicle wiring at fault.

ABS Wheel Sensor Testing
To test the wheel sensors, with the ignition off, disconnect the ABS module plug. With reference to the ABS connector drawing, and the ABS module pin numbers given at Table 1, test the sensor(s) indicated by the extracted fault code(s) as follows;
Test for continuity. Expected value 900-1400 ohms.

Test for signal by raising the affected wheel, spin the wheel at approximately one revolution per second. Expected value greater than 0.2 volts AC.

Table 1
Wheel = Pins
LH Front = 30 & 48
RH Front = 29 & 47

If any test fails, repeat the test at the sensor connector to determine if it is the sensor or the vehicle wiring at fault.
