SimonHawtin Posted August 4, 2016 Share Posted August 4, 2016 The brakes I am using on my track Car Escort Si1996 are getting burn out very quick. I want to keep my 15" rims. Can I use Sierra or mondeo discs ? has anyone done a conversion? I think the Sierra discs are 280mm diameter. any ideas would be great. Cheers Simon. neilydun Posted August 4, 2016 Share Posted August 4, 2016 I did the st170 mondeo brake upgrade combo using the 300 mm st discs but I had to use 16' rims off a mondeo si to suit it that's the biggest and cheapest kit I know of hope this helps Using 205 45 16 tyres on the five spoke mondeo si rims rolling radius nearly the same and handling good too Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
SimonHawtin Posted August 4, 2016 Author Share Posted August 4, 2016 I looked at the ST170 300mm but I have bought brand new set of R888`s, I think I can get a reconditioned calipers + discs 278mm and pads all in for around £200. Its not as good as 300mm but much better than the 240mm I have, that are not stopping me, keeps boiling the brake fluid. Many thanks Simon. horizon Posted August 5, 2016 Share Posted August 5, 2016 I have just fitted ST150 brakes. 278mm and a straight swap and able to keep my 15inch GTi wheels. I upgraded from 260mm which did a good job so I hope these will be even better. Look also into your brake compound as this makes a large difference I get by with the standard 240mm brakes on my Escort and its wheezing 1.3 either.
