Nice welds on new sill

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Escort%20Rebuild/Rebuild17.jpg

Also fitted the Rad out of the white orion. Its slightly thinner than the original one as its for a non-aircon car,

so decided to leave the aircon rad off and bung the aircon hoses. Thats a small easy fix i can do anytime after the cars finished.

Got to be re-gassed anyway.

Thats all folks

Got old spoiler off the white orion today as i was going to fit it to my newly aquired tailgate.

Then remembered id got a brand new genuine Orion RS accessory spoiler in the loft! So off i went and found it. Cant quite decide which to fit now??

1. The Mitsubisi one ive had for years off the old orion.

2. Brand new Ford one.

The plus of no.1 is its got a led brakelight and the plus of no.2 is its new, easier to fit as it oem, and its deeper. Oh and it will finish the accessory kit off as ive now got the complete RS set of F&R Bumpers,Spoiler and Skirts.

After reading that back its not really a choice is it! Just have to live without the 3rd brakelight. That'll be tuff!

After looking at it on the ramp im not happy with the rear chassis rails, theres a bit of rot on each side i dont really want to patch.

I patched the old orion and its not something i want to do again so got some new chassis rails yesterday. Cost me just over £30 per side but its a false economy patching them when i may as well replace them now.

Well its been a while since i updated this!

The original plan was to update the thread as i went but the time id worked 8am till 5.30 then on till 1am working on the car getting to a pc wasnt top of my "to do" list. So ill now try and give you a few highlights (and lowpoints) of the build.

They only looked like a small patch of rust before i started poking about!

So went and ordered two new rear chassis rails, which surprisingly cost about £20 each

Cut off what i didnt need and was left with

And repeat for the other side

After a bit of welding and much swearing the offside complete:

I also completed the nearside but didnt take any pics of it.

Then i turned my attention to the floor.

Ford decided not to underseal the rear of escorts. Clever idea ford. So spent a fair while cleaning and removing the rust and crap from the underside.

This exhaust mount is a good idea on its condition.

That was a absolute pig to remove and took ages to get the original bolts out.

How it would of looked in 1996

Rust removed and etch primed bare metal

Undersealed :)

Beam will be done at a later date

Also fully waxoyled all the chassis rails, sills, nooks and crannies etc etc. Dont have a picture to show this though.

I want this shell to last, not turn to rot like the last one.

Will try and update some more tomorrow

Exhaust shield back on

Got a scrap bonnet and bumper for next to nothing to get me on the road. Off to the MOT station!

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Escort%20Rebuild/IMG_1242.jpg

After failing the 1st time (on a marginal tyre!) I got a MOT ticket.

Next stop VOSA for a VIC check.

This must be a big money maker. I was there for around 4minutes, a guy checked my reg plates, and vin plate and vin no. stamped into floor, said yes alls ok. Gave me a certificate thingy and that was it. £35 for that bloody certificate. Grr

Next step is the interior.

I couldnt live without my remote central locking and a decent alarm, so took an afternoon carefully removing my old alarm from the white orion.

I then procedded to remove the odd screw and plastic bit!

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Escort%20Rebuild/IMG_1285.jpg

Removing the interior made wiring the alarm much easier and after a while soldering crimping, cable tieing etc the alarm was in and working :)

There was also a few rust patches on the floor which i removed. At least now both sides of the floor are in good shape :)
