Orionzetec Part II – The Return

Another update....

With the shell sound and undersealed/waxoyl'd etc it was time to turn attention to the bodywork.

Ive never really done anything like this before and was a matter of asking friends and trial & error to get things right.

Im going to do everything on this project on my own with the exception of the final spray job.

Its not all that difficult just a matter of not rushing things and taking your time and learning various technques

The old Orion RS bumper rubbed down with a replacement rs2000 bumper. The one i had been using was crap and needed changing (Note the cut outs for the different bumper lights).

How Ive Spent Most Of My Evenings This Year!

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Escort%20Rebuild/IMG_1331.jpg

Got hold of an Orion Mk3 bootlid to replace mine. The Mk3 doesnt have the Ford badge recess in the middle which will help me make the bootlid appear smoother. I could of used the smooth bootlid from the white orion but it fancied a different look.

Removed the lock and marked the raised part around the hole.

After some welding, filling, and rubbing down i got to this stage. The mk3 bootlid had a small dent on the left hand side. This is whats under the filler.

Lock hole has gone.

I then spent a considerable time repeating the procedure by removing both door locks and any small dents & dings from 12years being parked in car parks.

Much better without the door locks!

I thought about which side repeators to get and couldnt find ANY decent looking ones.(The oval is too long and looks weird imo)

So with my new found talent i moved onto to removing the crap repeators! Much better without em ;)

After rubbing down everything loads of times and extreme degreasing it finally got to the point where there was nothing left to do but spray! Id waited many months for this and was quite happy knowing most of the hard work had been done.

Finally shes in!

Due to having only one booth to use we had to spray parts over 3 nights.

1st night was the bumpers, spoiler, skirts, bonnet and bootlid

2nd Would be the doors (inside&out)

and 3rd would be the shell(wings, qtrs, roof, door shuts, front panel etc)

After spraying on the 1st night i suddenly realised id have no bootlid to drive home with!

The bootlid was still warm from being in the oven and there was no way i was going to refit it that soon after spraying.

A stanley knife, masking tape, a ford bumper box and 10 minutes later i knocked up a temporary bootlid to get me home!

Got a few laughs!

Luckily it didnt rain!

Theres several steps ive missed out but they really are boring and not much interest.

In the booth for the final time!!

Resprayed the rear lamps too as the tint had faded in the sun. A few new coats later :)

Also did the grey plastic black for a better apperance.

Gotta Love these.

Not cheap but the quality is spot on. Need trimming a bit to get my new 6.5 comps in the door :)

Im sure they'll sound great.

Spending most of my time wrestling with rusty suspension bolts that just wont budge!

Once they're out they get greased up so wont be hard to remove again!

Credit card taking a beating sadly :(

The fun continues.................
