where is the best place to find out what pin does what on your ecu?

and links to sites or anything is appreciated. or to make it even better

95AB-12A650-EA 1995 mk6 escort 1.6 zetec

95AB-12A650-TA 1995 mk6 escort 1.8 zetec (130ps)

those are the 2 that i want. im swapping to the bigger engine, well i have already done that, but want to put the right ecu on but need to check the wiring. only problem is that i dont know what pins does what. also people have been telling me about the internal pats and edis but seeing as it the same year on the same car shouldnt they both have these internal? well i know the 1.6 one does.

thanks

Are you JUST changing the ECU? Or is it an engine upgrade?

I have all the wiring diagrams.

the engine in the car now is a zetec-e 1.8 out of a gti. im changing all the parts to a 130ps spec and have the 130 ecu but want the diagrams to check that it will all run ok, eg the engine, the pats, the edis, injectors etc.

could you send me the diagrams for the ecus,

95AB-12A650-TA AND

95AB-12A650-EA

thank you sooo much. ive been asking around for weeks for this stuff and you replied in the same evening lol

thanks for the diagrams. i just had a look through them. are those diagrams specific to the ecu or just to the engine its running? eg the diagram that says for the 130. although there are 2 versions of that engine.

looking at those i noticed that one was the same as the 130 diagram,. i hope thats wot ive got lol

On the engine..............

.. and on the VIN plate on the front slam panel, sometimes abbreviated to just two characters, eg 1K or 1E perhaps.

it is abbreviated to 2 characters. but it just says L1 lol. ill give ford a ring tomorow and they can tell me. thanks for your help

There is only one pin-out per engine.. if, for some bizarre reason, there were multiple ECU's on the same engine code, then they'd have the same pinouts.

Hi, im sorry to bring up this old thread up but i asked some time ago if anyone can help me to find ecu pinout info for 60-pin EEC-5 in Escort 1997 (okay assembled middle of December 1996 in Spain, Barcelona afaik).

Still haven't found but the above quote got my eyeball, so the thing is this:

- early escorts had external EDIS mounted on the inner side of the left fender (on LHD at least), and they were equipped with EEC-4. i'm not sure the late EEC-4 equipped escorts tho;

- mk1 mondeos (i think all) had internal EDIS again with EEC-4 ECU

Now my escort has 1.8 RKC engine /as in the mondeo/ with EEC-5 but with 60 pins, without external EDIS, so im thinking - "for some bizarre reason" could the evil FoMoCo put a mondeo loom /imagine it with longer wires ofc and some tiny differences/ in my escort to connect the 60-pin EEC-5 with internal EDIS, ofc the question hanging in the balance is whether they matched the EEC-5 pinouts to the EEC-4 ones on the plug for the same wires. That said, if i open Autodata and look for 1994 Ford Mondeo having 60-pin internal EDIS EEC-4 without PATS, will it be the same as my Escorts 60-pin internal EDIS EEC-5 without PATS? Thanks.

I don't have the wiring diagrams in front of me, but the 60 pin EEC-V's were a transitional item so I would suspect they are mainly the same wiring as the EEC-IV Escorts. As you correctly state, early Escorts had external pats and external edis and gradually migrated to internal pats and internal edis in about 1996. In 1998 there was the 60 pin EEC-V (although not many of them from what i've seen) and then it went ful EEC-V from late 98 onwards. I don't know the exact dates anymore.

OK so today i was around the car for a while and i took some pics of the ECU and its labels and cables.

Also i yesterday i was looking around the net with its "part number" and every link i opened it said EEC-IV instead EEC-V. However the pics prove it differently. However again, many many of the used pins as well as where they go to, match the EEC-IV pinout. Still there are some different.

I also took down the wire colors for each used pin.

04. white-2black (meaning generally white with two thinner colored stripes, in the case two black)

Also last night after comparing wiring diagrams in Autodata 3.38 and ToleranceData 2009.2 to match the available pins of my ECU as well as known 'functions' of some of them it seems like only in ToleranceData for Escort [1996-2001], Escort 1,6i, Engine L1H and Electronics->Engine Management-> EEC-IV Zetec - 1996 (83US) the pins and what they control are matching. Only thing thats missing is pin 30.

I can't edit my previous post (dunno why) so here are again the pin numbers (without the color codes this time) and what are they for:

01. +12v always

02.

03. VSS

04. rev. counter? (as given in Tolerance, didn't check it but i believe it is)

05.

06.

07. ECT sensor return value

08.

09. MAF sensor

10. air-conditioner

11. canister purge valve

12.

13.

14.

15.

16. earth/ground/battery '-'

17.

18. diagnostic connector

19. diagnostic connector

20. earth/ground/battery '-'

21. idle control valve

22. collision switch? (as given in Tolerance haven't checked it but i believe it is)

23.

24. camshaft sensor

25. intake air temp. sensor

26. TPS (one of the three, that gives i think +5v)

27.

28. power steering switch? (as given in Tolerance, didn't check where it goes, couldn't find the switch)

29.

30. brown-green? (it's missing in Tolerance's diagram, couldn't find where it goes either, anyone?)

31.

32.

33.

34.

35. injector 4

36.

37. +12v on ignition

38.

39. injector 3

40. earth/ground/battery '-'

41.

42. octane adjust? (as given in Tolerance, couldn't find the plug (if there is) but it's linked to battery '-' as it should anyway)

43.

44. HEGO signal (0,1-0,9v)

45.

46. common 'ground' (i think its called) for some sensors, like TPS, ECT and one-two more

47. TPS sensor return value (~0,9v @closed throttle..)

48.

49.

50. MAF sensor return value (~0,7v @idle..)

51. injector 1

52. injector 2

53.

54. air-conditioner

55. crankshaft sensor? (as given in Tolerance, didn't check it, couldn't reach it, but i believe it is)

56. crankshaft sensor? (as given in Tolerance, didn't check it, couldn't reach it, but i believe it is)

57. +12v on ignition

58. ignition coil

59. ignition coil

60. earth/ground/battery '-'

So now my biggest concern is for pin 30, others which have "?" aren't so important but i'd be happy to know them 100%.

Thanks, interesting. That's using fairly late EEC-IV hardware - flash ROM - internal EDIS - non-PATS - so the only reason it can be called EEC-V is down to the firmware revision. It also has a DCL fault code interface, so it would be interesting to see what functions it supports.

I don't have Autodata loaded on this machine so can't check, but I would image that if you use an L1E wiring diagram it will pretty much line up with what you've got, apart from PATS that is.
