  1. Usually when the fan doesn't kick in you disconnect the switch, short it out with a piece of wire and see if that runs the fan. This proves if the switch is faulty.I can't see how the fan runs when you disconnect the wiring off the sensor. Was this fault on the car before the auto to manual change?l

    Diodes

Does anyone know which diode does what in a mk6 fusebox? Thanks
  3. Ok,thought you'd fitted two switches.Try the meter and let us know what you find.
  4. So if you short out the plug, the fan runs? You've fitted two new switches and these don't work? Are you running the car up to temp. long enough for the switch to kick in?
  5. Set the meter to test for continuity and when the car comes up to temp. place the leads across the switch terminals and if you get a reading the switch is closed, and working,if not, it's open circuit and needs replacing. The way you describe the fault I would say the switch is faulty.A further test you could do is place the sensor part in a pan of boiling water and repeat the above test.
  6. If you run the car until it gets to the stage where the fan cuts in,have you got access to a multi-meter to test the hose switch to see if it's closed.

    Car won't start

It looks like R2 feeds R3,fuel pump relay. The contacts on R2,one side fed direct from the battery if shorted out operate the fuel pump, light under clock and the engine turns over and starts. I removed the fuse box and traced where the coil connections went to.One side went to earth, which checked out ok and the other side went to the large multiplug at the rear of the box,to try and find why R2 wasn't pulling in. This is where the plot thickens, when checking this connection, their was no wire in the multiplug??????? I've ended up running a wire from the ignition switch to feed R2 coil+ and the car now runs.If anyone can explain this I'd appreciate it.

    Car won't start

Could someone tell me what the R2 Brown relay is please,i'm trying to identify it in the Haynes manuel. If I short the terminals out the car will start, but there is no feed to the coil. Thanks

    Car won't start

Thanks very much for your reply,i'll check in the morning.Regarding the heater, you can hear the relay pull in but no output.Nothing on the tailgate contact plate and nothing on the switch indictor to say it's on.I've changed the relay as well.

    Car won't start

I've checked all connections, relays etc and all seem ok.I marked everything I removed in order to put everything back as it was.Everything works except the rear screen still,so all this hassle for nothing gained. Nothing at all on start-up,usually you hear what I think is fuel pump, but I've noticed the LED no longer illuminates under the clock when ignition is turned on. It's got to be something stupid Any ideas would be much appreciated as I'm stumped.
  11. I've just removed the fusebox on my MK6 to try and solve an issue with the rear screen heater.Connected it back up and the starter wouldn't operate on the key. Checked plugs etc, wiring and feed going to R13,feed and switch feed both there. If I turn ignition key to start and push in R13 the car turns over but doesn't start.I've also noticed that when I turn the ignition on the LED below the clock no longer comes on.Anyone with any thoughts much appreciated.
