  1. I was thinking about possibly doing this for that very reason actually the other day, although it seems a waste in a way to have to buy a zetec engine loom and 2.0 ecu to then change it again to carbs and standalone management down the line
  2. Update: Had a few more goodies delivered recently. I got some white and gloss black enamel for when I clean up and paint various parts on the car and a big tub of waxoyl for under coating the stripped rear end after some repairs have been carried out obviously, just need to get a primer to go on first. Also got my valve lapping stick and paste ready for when I remove all the valves and clean them up and re-seat them all and the big end and main bearing set arrived too Also decided to order my bottom end gasket set in preparation for re-assembly and a set of stainless sump bolts, some pics: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1508_zpswpd9q7xv.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1509_zpshltxv0en.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1514_zpsvjv3dajj.jpg Next up is the fact I bagged myself a set of zx9r carbs off ebay, they need abit of work and a few replacement parts but all will be sorted in time. Am going to space these out to the port widths of the zetec inlet so that I can make straight runners on the inlet manifold I will make to mount these on: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1513_zpszlezcrph.jpg I also got round to changing the piston rings on my pistons and cleaning up the top of the block and re-honing the bores ready for slotting the pistons back in: Out with the old: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1517_zpsfztmfrw6.jpg Piston ring slots cleaned out: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1511_zps3gwc14di.jpg New rings in: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1512_zpsilk6crzk.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1518_zpspqw86t6r.jpg Block top cleaned up and bores re-honed: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1522_zpsj6umhscw.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1524_zpsvnkpa49k.jpg Thanks
  3. Cracking job, take my hat off to ya for spraying the whole thing outside and overall a very good job, imperfections are to be expected but atleast you've done it all yourself
  4. Update: Managed to get a cheeky half hour working on the car today whilst looking after the little'un and got the rear axle stripped down and axle bushes removed ready for new ones. Unsure on whether to fit poly bushes or just normal bushes though? As I know in some cases its not really worth the extra money fitting poly bushes sometimes, thoughts? Also got my new piston rings delivered from burton power in the week aswell Some pics: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1485_zpsionixg0m.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1487_zpstlmt9hov.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1489_zpsjbgppjfu.jpg
  5. Just read through every page of this, awesome project, inspires me for mine! Shame it seems to have died off last year?
  6. Yep everything that's took off wi'll be cleaned up and painted Yeah the filler neck is held on with a screw inside the fuel flap cover underneath a black cap just next to the fuel filler cap and then there's a couple more screws along the length of the filler neck underneath leading to the tank.
  7. Nah dont worry fronts will be upgraded too
  8. Update: After work today thought id crack on with the old girl abit more whilst im waiting on some engine parts and trying to accumulate various items for that side of things thought id start on the strip down for the rear end refurb. So first up was to remove the exhaust system and heatshields: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1468_zpsazqdcjby.jpg Then I moved onto removing the rear axle and parking brake cables, hoses etc. Ended up having to cut through the front handbrake cable due to the 10mm nut internally being cross threaded onto the adjuster rod, so will have to replace that but oh well: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1471_zpsmxaa3mlz.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1477_zps5vific78.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1476_zpsghvuicmr.jpg Rear struts off too so these can be refurbished aswell: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1479_zps3i0l2tyf.jpg Can see up close now the corrosion to the rear chassis legs now, definitely some work to be done here as expected: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1478_zpsfanlxepx.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1480_zpswbi8k6gg.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1481_zpsu4qt4nfs.jpg Whilst I was under it the fuel tank, and filler neck was removed too for cleaning up and painting: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1482_zpszwnqzxe3.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1483_zpscy18vzut.jpg I then called it a night and left it as that for now, as it stands: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1484_zps4ya5hitv.jpg Plenty more work to be done, but feel as though im progressing with it now One question if anyone knows who's reading this, whilst the tanks out, when a 2 litre conversion is done from a 1.4 cvh is it worth putting a 1.6/1.8 fuel pump into it instead? Or is this not needed? Thanks
  9. Update: Big package arrived today, all my brake parts for the rear disc conversion Over the moon with them, discs and pads are both like new just abit of surface rust on the discs from sitting around but nothing that cant be cleaned up http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1427_zpstglewpzy.jpg

  11. Update: Well another update for you lot. Have been roaming ebay again for bits for the project! (need to stay away from there for awhile the wallet is taking a battering ) have bagged myself a complete rear focus disc setup this time being delivered next week, hubs, discs, pads, calipers, backing plates and handbrake cable, am very happy with it just need to upgrade the front to suit at some point too Couple pics from the ad: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/Screenshot_2014-05-24-19-07-12_zpswgx4ii8o.png http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/Screenshot_2014-05-24-19-07-34_zpsen053lv1.png Also stripped the engine down some more. Overall very good condition should be a simple rebuild hopefully. Got the pistons out and shells to take some measurements for the necessary parts to be ordered: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1410_zpsnsw4volf.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1411_zpsp2hulesx.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1414_zpsbssy4bsx.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1415_zps6ahcn1i2.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1413_zpsuma5xezr.jpg Next up I think ill strip the rear axle off and start refurbing that aswell in preparation for the disc conversion I just bought. Thanks all
  12. How much would you do the weitec coilovers for? PM me
  13. Here for sale I have my 17" deep dish wheels and tyres as what was fitted to my mk6 escort however no longer required due to changing direction with the project with a different style. Overall the alloys are in very good condition with the anthracite colour centres only having small corrosion around the centre caps on all four wheels and a few light scratches here and there nothing major by any means and still look very respectable as is overall. The polished lips have been hand polished previously however are now showing abit of tarnishing from sitting around and not having had a regular metal polish with the autosol for awhile again nothing major by any means and are still shining perfectly well just not perfect. One alloy does also have a very minor kerb mark to the polished edge (as pictured) The tyres are in pretty good shape too. Although one has suffered from when it has gone flat previously and bulged the sidewall so that one would be scrap unfortunately as the tread was great. However the other 3 are still perfectly usuable with great tread (various makes) albeit a couple of them do now have abit of age related cracking to the edge of the tread pattern top rubber layer however not deeps cracks or anything to reach cords or ply so are still good to go, so you will only need to replace 1 tyre before hitting the road Overall for a second hand set of alloys these would be a very good buy as it took me ages to find a good set for my mk6 before I found these originally that suited mine and with abit of TLC they would be back to how they were again easily. Am very happy to answer any questions you may have and take any further detailed pictures you may like as I have nothing to hide and have tried to be as honest as I possibly can. So to be clear on offer is 4 alloys and 3 fitted tyres (as 1 is scrap) Viewing recommended as with all these things. Please read all of the description and study all of the pictures closely. Collection preferred however delivery can be arranged at extra cost at buyers risk (to be agreed on request) Location - Northamptonshire Price - £150 ONO Pictures: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1378_zpsaey38us6.jpg Wheel 1: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1379_zpsvwnh1skg.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1380_zpsjsc0zvlq.jpg Wheel 1 - tyre tread: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1390_zpsntlkoewy.jpg Wheel 2: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1381_zpsf5a5ahim.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1382_zps3k6pgag7.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1383_zpshmbh1gw9.jpg Wheel 2 - Tyre tread: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1391_zpsmrrouq7v.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1392_zps0hl1zgkr.jpg Wheel 3: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1384_zpstuoqie1c.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1385_zpslrr3hk5t.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1388_zpsweeo0hvx.jpg Wheel 3 tyre - Scrap due to bulge in sidewall: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1393_zps8otv6nlb.jpg Wheel 4: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1386_zps0pfce31x.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1387_zpsah1oxopi.jpg Wheel 4 - Tyre tread: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1394_zpsuxeubbz6.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1395_zpsyz5zjhfe.jpg Thankyou all! 14. Yeah I think I may well end up putting a new set of rings in anyway as a precaution as it would really annoy me if it was smoky after putting it all back together Update: Well not much of an update but how the old girl stands now, sorted out me shed as well to give myself more room for the engine rebuild and gave her a good wash before being covered up before 'surgery' commences to try and keep anymore weather at bay http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1368_zpsr1ivep1q.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1369_zpshvcwc0on.jpg thanks all
  15. Update: Got abit more done with the car this week. Stripped the engine down further for more inspection. Pleased so far with the condition of the engine, all seems to be in very good nick so far, no excessive wear on the bores or cams etc, just nice clean honing marks in the bores still etc. Seems as though it was passing abit of oil into the combustion chamber from a couple of the valve seals though, possibly rings? hard to tell as looked abit moist with oil in cylinder 2 , but not a problem as will replace these as a precaution I think any thoughts on this?? Also got my new QH clutch through, red accuspark leads and replacement rear light for the one on the car that got smashed in storage after a little accident. Some pics. As the engine stands now: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1357_zps3yynncta.jpg Nice bore just needs a clean up: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1356_zpsyys8t9es.jpg Head off: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1358_zpseczqfqtx.jpg New leads: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1345_zpswu8gmkrm.jpg New clutch and light: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1344_zpsmfmqj9z0.jpg The old girl in its new 'project' bay haha: http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1327_zps2tlpaaeu.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1346_zpsifs47ejp.jpg Thanks all
