  3. Well its been a good few months since I last updated this as just wanted to get everything done before I posted again. With the engine cleaned up and sitting on the stand I checked everything over to the best of my knowledge everything seemed ok. I Turned the engine upside down & rotated it & all still seemed ok. I temporarily refitted the Mondeo sump and left it on the stand as without the escort oil pump and sump I couldn’t progress any. I looked into getting another oil pump and sump so I could get the engine built up but it was going to cost too much ££ when I already had the parts required on the 1800 engine. So with the weather still crap outside I set about upgrading the headlights over a weekend. So began the 1st of many headaches. I wont go into too much detail but building up these custom headlights is a total pain in the rear. Its such a fiddley job working with the morettes and because they are so heavily modified its a utter nightmare getting the beam set right. I’ve wasted soo many hours trying & retrying to get the headlights pointing correctly it was driving me crazy. Luckily the clocks going back helped as it meant I could still get to work & back without lights. It took about a month to set them up correctly. Soo many times I thought id sorted it only to be disappointed when I went for (yet another!) test drive. So then the headlights.... well if you read the topic in the 1st post you’ll see the xenon conversion. Although happy with what id achieved I knew I could better myself. So I decided to get some better projectors. With the ballast and custom looms installed I thought the upgrade would be fairly easy. Big mistake! So these are the replacement projectors New Bi-Xenon Projectors I’m now quite an anorak when it comes the xenon lighting systems and knowing the results id seen from others using theses projectors I knew the effort would be worth it in the end. The original set up used single xenon units in the morettes with the inner lenses doing the high beam, the new projectors are bi-xenon so they do both main & high beams. So I decided to go full xenon (no more halogen) and remove the bulbs & wiring from the inner lenses. As they were apart I gave them a few dusting coats of black so they would appear darker. After a major amount of banging my head against a wall trying to get the beam sorted (I was a very near to giving up and just breaking the car and buying another) the stars/planets aligned & everything clicked into place and was finally rewarded with a near perfect beam pattern. Lucky really as 10 hours later the car went in for its MOT. I wanted to get the MOT done before pulling the engine out. MOT passed with only a couple of silly advisories. Result! The Bi-Xenon projectors perform even better than the photos make out. A very happy chappie My Mk1 Xenons http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Xenon/IMG_0989.jpg The back of the old xenons http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Xenon/IMG_0988.jpg More plastic cut away http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Xenon/IMG_0987.jpg I took a load of effort to get this far! http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Xenon/IMG_0997.jpg Redone Bezels http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Xenon/IMG_1026.jpg Trial Fit http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Xenon/IMG_1004.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Xenon/IMG_0998.jpg Std & Tinted comparision http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Xenon/IMG_1058.jpg Testing http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Xenon/IMG_1009.jpg Finally! 7. Hi Folks Some people might know my car some might not. So before I begin i'll offer people a recap of things so far. First Topic And... Second Topic The cars been used daily for the past five years and is in need of a "Freshen Up" Over the last five years not much has changed for the Escort. With buying a house and various other things happening in my life the car has taken a back seat. The ideas still rattle around my head though. So i thought id pull my finger out and give the car a final revamp. This will prob be the last evolution of the car though as ive been in escorts since 1999 and really should get somthing faster This thread will get updated over the weeks months as things slowly progress. Firstly i'll begin with the engine. Managed to source a 2L Silvertop for the bargain price of £80. 85k out of a Mk2 once loaded in the van & a small road trip later I had this..... http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Orionzetec%20evolution/IMG_0919.jpg The plan was to slowly ready it for the Escort over the Winter and fit it come early spring time once the sun came out again. Over this time id also get together all the parts required as well as finding the new bits id aquired/lost in the garage over the last five years. Set the timing to TDC, fitted the crank pin and cam bar and stripped most bits off the engine As usual I couldnt budge the crank bolt so invested in this Electric Impact Wrench It made very light work of the pulley bolt leaving me with this http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/IMG_0963-1.jpg Gave it a good scrub and degrease and applied a coat of rust terminator stuff. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Orionzetec%20evolution/IMG_0968.jpg Once dry i gave it a coat of high temp black and allowed it to dry for a while. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/orionzetec/Orionzetec%20evolution/IMG_0972.jpg Not really got any further with the engine as i cant do much more until the old one is out as i need the manifolds and sumps etc off the 1800. Been on the search for an ECU but not been succesful, so if youve got a deep, desk or dewy kicking about please shout Much more to come......
  8. I highly recommend Spax
  9. Cheers guys, didn't know that. Will make removing my gearbox much easier. Thanks
  10. So once youve undone the boot metal clip (or cable tie) and prised it back, it can just be pulled out? Thought there was more holding it on.
  11. Cheers etrebus - think ill just bolt the conversion bits on and hope all is well. Its the final push for the escort as i really need to get a better car as been in escorts for 10+years Ill prob have to get the head skimmed and get a new head set if the head does come off. Theres another £100 gone just to look it over
  12. I don't know, that's why I asked. If there's nothing I can check then I'll just continue. Thanks, now I know I'll plod on
  13. What I meant was its just the block and the head together. No sump, rocker, manifolds, pumps etc. They've all got to come off anyway so not sure why I should of just left them?!? I'll just carry on. Mods pls delete post
  14. Which clearances are they? Head and block staying together as don't see any need to split them.
