  1. Well its more or less finished, not quite MOT'd due to a leak and I keep losing brake pressure and not had time to look at why (assume a leak somewhere) Anyway none of that changes the end look so after about 7 years consider, buckets of money its basically and complete and these the final pics on here as photobucket is rubbish. http://i66.tinypic.com/ndu5q0.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/2itlf8n.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/dw53li.jpg
  2. After about 10 years or more without and escort, I've gone and bought this with a mate. Had a mk5 and mk6 rs in the past, so felt only right to try the RS turbo out. Looks ok from afar, but once you get digging needs a fair bit of work. Not to worry, love a challenge and it the way values are going will never be out of pocket on it. http://i65.tinypic.com/dbia6x.jpg http://i67.tinypic.com/x1c3rb.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/2a0hild.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/2lsh5af.jpg Been on abit of a shopping spree already http://i63.tinypic.com/al6qo6.jpg
  3. Finally painted http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/8D98A99A-C433-459B-A758-33593AE176D9.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/488C4C12-BE72-45FC-8D7D-138E854F09A8.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/A8FBB75A-ED63-4703-ABA4-2FFB0D77BA5C.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/4CA6D346-BBC4-4328-8108-5B122AFA3EFD.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/AAE1A4C2-2C0C-4D2C-A13B-0AAC45D6C715.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/A7E7E505-C022-459C-8A11-4A6F2C6C3E2A.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/7E4024C2-75AB-408C-A8AA-4CFA6FC2229F.jpg
  4. no don't worry just what I had to get it rolling. Been spending a lot of time trying to work out wheel options and sizes. What I wanted was 10" at the back and 9" on the front but I just can't get road tyres in those widths. Toyo list a 245 if I went 9" rear and 8" front but no-where seems to stock it. Got local tyre dealer on the case and they spoke with Toyo and to get them you have to order a container of them! So that's out the window now so resided to going 8" all round now with suitable offset to fill the arches. 99% set on these. They are closed until 3rd Jan so will place order then and the guy said 8-10 weeks which is quicker than I'll need them anyway! I did wonder about escort cosworth alloys which are effectively the same style on it now but 1" wider but I'm going to need massive spacers for those and they are stupidly expensive. for new ones and 2nd hand will need refurb. http://www.imagewheels.co.uk/psr-alloy-wheel/
  5. About time for another update. Quite a milestone, I've done what I can with the bodyshell and its booked in for paint 3rd week of January. Can't wait, once that's done the assembly can commence. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/1930DBDE-6D2D-49D8-8575-F2C16DFD97AD.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/DD9CB782-BC38-44B9-B119-BBA653C40825.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/D32566F4-3AA4-4385-BE04-98789C8790A8.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/B5AA9E11-7994-4DD6-85FC-6157F3691DC4.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/C718E05F-3FD2-43D7-BD57-5FD0A7F5E6BF.jpg
  6. nice motor you have there, what's in it at the moment, 1.6 cvh?
  7. I hear what you're saying. My wife was looking for a new car and we very nearly bought a Kia Sportage the other month over a Kuga. You certainly get more for the money, wasn't new we're look at 3-4 year old. Landed buying a Kuga in the end but didn't think I'd ever even go into a Kia garage, times have changed. The BMW I had was actually one of the worst cars I've had. Didn't get off to a good start with it and it cost me a few quid through the 2 years I had it. Probably bad luck but won't be rushing to buy another. Based on the pattern I think your next one will be a 2009 BMW 320i Msport Touring? Didn't think there would be many still used as a daily, quite a statement to say you wouldn't change for the world, it is just an old escort remember!
  8. So I see in another post someone has completely gone to the other side and is driving an Astra VXR. Given pretty much everyone on this forum had an escort as their daily at one point or another I just wondered what people now have as their daily, have you taken the logic Ford route and now drive a Focus, or have you too gone to the dark side? Since my last daily escort I've gone: Fiesta 1.25 Ka 1litre Puma 1.7 Octavia VRS BMW 320D Focus ST Estate
  9. Fantastic build, only just seen this one great work going on. Keep the progress updates coming.
  10. Yeah will do then end is in sight at last :-)
  11. Cheers, it's was pretty expensive. More than the car or engine cost! I've not actually got the final bill and I changed it from the original quote which was about £500...
  12. Time for another update Rear before http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/bc2ca37e383b904b455e02760366546f.jpg After http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/27ecd8eb4d03a7ad1deebc8313f598b3.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/5b355bb0dba33bb91917be7ff5adf16a.jpg Front done http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/02cfb9744ac9c4c32c4d99dae8698cf1.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/57eda12fd5393c356e853cd3d04174ae.jpg Could resist a pic with my other toy http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/d7cc3d1ada4d2a1e283134314b32a562.jpg Front splitter didn't fit worth a f*** http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/A04A9140-53A5-4230-9754-9DC2C1D6B1D3.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/33044D1D-C057-4B18-8DA2-4A68DEDC56CA.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/53868667-3267-41DD-8F38-2C53C77657F4.jpg Got there in the end, Couldn't resist another pic, this time with mates XR2i http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/4071C5C3-A4B6-4438-860F-A55C07AF19AD.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/43C88B64-647C-40B5-8142-75AF574E2807.jpg Next I decided to tackle and area I wasn't looking forward to, the roof gutter. Cut out the rot and welded in the new section, quite happy with the end result http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/4243B1DC-63BB-418D-A1DF-BBB2E1CF50FD.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/594C68BB-23E0-442A-9E15-977AF58D97C3.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/4CFDBA0D-FA99-4EF3-8430-FBF38186CFA8.jpg Next up I relocated the battery to the boot http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/A9848AD2-183B-4F02-9A6B-7563F2805D15.jpg Another job I wasn't looking forward to or confident about was the wiring. The diagrams in the tech section on this site are excellent and it doesn't take long with the loom in front of you to work out whats what http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/F8B275D5-D42F-4BF0-AE91-ED0DEB54EF8D.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/082B070B-0307-443E-A694-65F1148F89CA.jpg Next up I put the engine in to work out where to take the wiring through the bulkhead and to start to work out what I'm putting where http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/4CD5B36E-B961-41B4-8852-867320549842.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/C80446E2-58F8-432E-8D0F-32622F15F5C0.jpg Fitting a 6 way fuse box to power the relays for ECU, fuel, fans etc. Only using 3 so means any new modern touches can be easily fitting in future. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/6E8FADFD-CD00-451D-8EAD-BB550AF73551.jpg Made a bracket for ECU too but didn't seem to take a photo of that! Next up was the inside, alot of the sound deadening was brittle and lost its stick, removed as appropriate, splash of paint and then new deadening. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/4BF8BEE2-4761-48FE-9B3C-B104EE826A32.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/5A90AB54-B420-414F-810A-98AAA4C98256.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/4129E191-EFC6-462E-8950-B6A505EDDA5A.jpg I'd previously made the radiator brackets for a sierra radiator but had a concern it was too thin at just 30mm. Rather than redo the brackets for an off the shelf option I had a custom idential size but in 50mm alloy made by radtec. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/ABCF0B0B-E4E9-4182-B5FB-25A846F60120.jpg Then that brings you up to date for now, radiator fitted a treat and looks the part. Just wiring in the fans and temp sensor left to do. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/C4E1D1AE-CF1B-4E8A-B300-367B730F32F7.jpg
  13. Wondered how this has landed at the top of the pile again. Its a decent show, depending on what your into. There's not much older stuff, but thousands of new stuff. I'm 50/50 if I prefer this or Classic Ford. Doesn't help if you break down on route, this year (well last year now) the XR2i alternator gave up the fight with about 40miles to go! Probably tempted faint by posting the earlier comment!
  14. Going with a mate in his XR2i so think we're with the XROC stand. Can't wait. Hope the old girl makes it down and back ok, last time we went it involved an AA truck
  15. So you much still be watching it then? Coulnd't agree more with your comment Sid, IMO Bernie needs to go, he's overstayed his welcome already. When he goes either volunterly or in a box there will be big changes I'm sure, until then however... I think Red Bull are just making noises to be honest, I can't see it would reflect well on the brand if they pulled the plug as soon as things stopped going their way. In some respects I agree with what they are trying to do, i.e level the playing field in terms of engines. That said, although it feels like we're at the start of a Mercedes dominant era we're only 1 year in to that at the moment if indeed it was to happen, and Red Bull have the run of the field for 4 years without change so its seems too early to be complaining yet.
  16. Anyone on here following it? What did you make of the first race? Thought it was pretty bland myself but at least there's plenty off track policitics as usual to keep things interesting. Sauber driver problems, Marussia car problems, Alonso out for first face and as for Honda power...
  17. So as I said previously the radiator was going to be slightly too big to close the bonnet, in the end i decided to cut about 10mm off the top and bottom of it and restrap it and it now fits like a glove. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/ddab3d8875ad76cd392dd2dd8bea681c.jpg Finished article http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/abf0c1b3738cb8b9540f3950c65f26ed.jpg Next up I went on a spending spree, picked up this lovely full leather interior from a local seller on gumtree: http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/499146a8f6e1184a572c28e2ff37e2e4.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/91279e4634842af466379c1801e48b10.jpg In the last few weeks I've got really stuck into the Xpack fitting. Initially cutting out the rear arches and tubing out the inner arches. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/602c3ef90c5081271ea9bc8311429c34.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/efef8c6dabcd2211c2d8c4a2a6b737c9.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/35ecf2c658b02d82d6dc5dc3664744e2.jpg And then finally the rear quarters bonded and riveted on. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/49cd1b96b47ed039ef023372afaea33f.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/20cd31d8d4ab8574fba294dc3f21efe6.jpg And that's pretty much it to date. Next up is the front wings, which I'm gonna make a start on today. I've offered them up already, and they don't fit well so going to take some faffing to get them right, Great...
  18. What he said plus make sure instrument panel is from same engine I.e 1.6 I once put a 1.4 Rev counter in 1.6 and it didn't read correct. 1.8 Zetec might be the same I'm not sure I wouldnt personally chance as it can't be hard to get right one.
  19. Derived from the same I think but isn't that a 3.9 or 4.0l or something like that? Funny how the output of that and the 2.9 I'm using is the same but completely different approach to getting it. I'd imagine that will have bags more torque though.
  20. I've suggested making the site more appealing to all mk's of escorts previously and not just 5/6. Apparently it already is an enthusiasts site for all mk's although IMO its not very obvious. Given that the user & post count is so much lower than it used to be a reduction of the number of categories could help make the site appear more active by having more active topics in each sections. This is the first time I've logged in this year and there was 3 or 4 sections with posts since I was last here. Yes facebook has killed forums off to a certain extent, but there has also probably never been a less desirable time to own an escort. They're generally too old/not desirable for an everyday car for most. New drivers (i.e 17/18 year olds) are not going to buy one as their first car or 2nd car as the like of myself did 10-15 years ago and they are still to modern and too many rough examples around to be appreciated as a classic or maintained as a 2nd "Sunday/Show" car. I know there are exceptions to that, but generally speaking thats the case. Give it another 10 years, the crud thats left will be soup tins by then, the better examples will get restored and the minters that have been hiding for years will resurface as they will actually be worth a quid or 2. Its the same thats happened with other Fords, mk1/2 escorts being prime examples but also Capri's which I'm a massive fan off have massively increased in value and demand in the last 10 years as less are available and more middle aged men want to relive their youth and have the money to do so. When that happens sites like this will pick up again, if they still exist...
  21. Thanks chaps. Radiator arrived this week, its slightly bigger than I thought, either going to have to modify it or put it in at a slight angle, neither of which is ideal. Also ordered my x pack kit which should be here any day now so should see some quite big visual updates soon.
  22. ok ok! So got a piece for the scuttle and got that welded in, although in true style heres the before pic but didn't take an after.. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/0ac5bb19b52130c558a1245322e53aaf.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/stuey6/capri%20resto/3c4076092012f8180badabf09f521e4b.jpg Outer sills on, one side fitted well the other is about 15mm longer that it should be. Strut top reinforcements on, again what a crap fit these are, had to cut them in multiple places to try and get them to shape to the inner wing. Underside finished and cleaned Some Zinc primer Final coat of rubberised paint stuff, can't remember the name, bloody expensive: Plan was to get the car back to a rolling shell before the birth of my first child, but the wee devil arrived 7 weeks early and dashed that plan. I can now see why you hear of people starting projects and not getting back to them for about 20years! Hoping this won't be one of them. So since her birth I've got it back as a rolling shell, polybushes of course Front brake upgrade mock up. Going for mk1/2 mondeo calipers with brackets knows as the GTR280 kit. Hubs were machined done to accept the discs on the front of the hubs rather than bolt to rear as standard setup would be. And that's you all pretty much up to date. I'm in the process of refurbishing the front calipers now, they are stripped and painted, just need to put them back together. I've also cut out the standard radiators mounts and doing some repairs where they were removed. I need to put in a bigger radiator so one of the next steps is to get one that fits and make up some brackets for it. Undecided if I'm going for a custom alloy job or a sierra option.
