I got the facia from my old Escort, I just need to respray it the same colour as my dash facia. I got halfords to put my head unit in last time (what a waste of money that was lol), I'm putting it my self this time. I just couldn't remember if I need a wiring harness or not.

Well I bought my car the other day, and I really need to put some new ICE in it. I still have my Kenwood head unit and Infinity 6x9's, which are from my old car there only 15months old.

The sorter ICE install I'm thinking of doing is to keep it all looking standard with out making any holes in my car, I want to hide anything away from site.

I'm thinking of upgrading all four ford speakers with FLI Integrator Speakers, I.E. to put 4inch in the front, and 6inches in the rear, with a small Vibe sub and amp in the boot. I'm not overly keen on subs though, but cant really see another way around it as I don't want speakers on show.

Any ideas welcome please guys or girls?

Please don't use the FLI speakers they are poor quality but seem to attract people due to the price.

I would fit 6" front's using adaptor plates from most auto retailers and an easy swap and keep the infinity's in the rear.

Don't fit 4" into the front as the rears will overpower them and throw the soundstage to the rear instead of the front.

Stealth box in the boot for a bit of hidden bass.

I use a couple of cheap mods for customers on a tight budget : -

1. Replace all factory speaker cable with either 10 or 12 gauge cable as factory wire is poor and this will improve mid and bass performance.

2. go to Maplins and purchase a set of in-line caps to block any frequencies lower than 70 hertz. this will stop speaker distorting a high volume and sound a lot , lot cleaner. cost 10 quid tops. fit in 5 minutes just put them in the + wire before the speaker.

hope this helps

ok mate a good bit of info there.

So tell what you think of my revisited ICE install then?

In front a Pair of Fusion EN-CM65 6.5", that already have in-line caps with them = cost £45.98

or

In the front a pair of Infinity Reference Ref6010cs 6.5" hat already have in-line caps with them = cost £42.98

In the rear put my old INFINITY REFERENCE 9623i - 300 Watts 6x9 CAR SPEAKERS

in to a Stealth Shelf = cost £65.99

for the real I also have Oxygen amp wire from my old car that I got when I got the 6x9s installed.

Well thats my idea, but I would like to plug up a 300 watt or 600 watt 2 chennal amp to my 6x9s and do I need for the 6x9s?

Thinking about it the Infinity Reference Ref6010cs 6.5" are slightly better then the Fusion ones.

hi ,

in my humble opinion , i would suggest using the infinity option , purely down to the fact that you already have infinity rears and this would blend the front and rear tonal qualities to a very close match.

Think the fusion tonal qualities are ok but infinity have a much better pedigree in speaker production.

I would suggest amping the fronts not the rear , again if you amp the rears most of the volume will be rear orientated and you sit in the front !!

I would even suggest holding off buying speakers for @ month as most audio manufacturers launch their new ranges then and the older models drop in price quite nicely.

Sound deadening in the front doors is a great help and will improve mid and bass , ideally the inner side of the door skin and the inner door frame but a 12" square section directly behind the speaker location will show some improvement.

Have a look a the POLK speaker range , especially if you can get a sale price pair , very well made and great specs and you will be getting into audiophile territory for not a lot of wedge.

Hope this helps.

No probs , just thought i would give you a heads up , CAR AUDIO CENTER run an SPL day on the last saturday of every month in london , might not be your thing but they have a very varied mix of vehicles and brands turning up.

As everybody hears slightly different and each individual has their own taste , go along and listen to various sets of speakers and make your own mind up on what you like , at the end of the day we can all suggest a brand but it's you thats gotta live with them.

Cheers

I take it by deadening 100% correct you mean deadening the entire vehicle ?

If so , isn't that a bit harsh ? when the system in question is purely for self amusement and not competition use ie. SPL or SQ.

To do the entire vehicle is a mission and not cheap not to mention the off road time required to bare shell the entire interior including the roof lining.

I have seen proven positive results (spectrum analyser) by applying deadening directly behind the speaker area as the sound waves from the speaker cone travel both ways , forward and reverse , and deadening directly behind this area reduces bounceback which improves clarity.

At minimum the price of 2 x 12" sheets are great value when considering the improvement in sound quality.

i'm not picking fault with your suggestion just offering my opinion.

Unusual kit , nice , and good to see somebody breaking from the traditional japanese brand trend.

Love the RE stuff , aint used the US amps as of yet !!

I have spent the last 3 years scouring the corners of the universe for my setup and only got the alternator left to buy once i make me mind up what lump to slam in the old oil burner.

Sorry my mistake it's CAR AUDIO SECURITY not the CAR AUDIO CENTER.

Basically it's a sound off day to see who can hit the highest SPL result , a quick burst of bass with your output levels measured in decibels and highest result wins !!!! prizes for the winners and if you don't win at least you have got some figures to work with and try to improve.
