bleeding a diesel

Hi, yesterday i bought a escort turbo diesel to do the td conversion on my van. It was running fine until i came to start it this morning, it fired up then died straight away and hasnt started since. I think i ran it outta fuel so i've put more in and it still refuses to start

will it need bleeding? if so how do i do it?

and also i notice a pipe has split from the pump its i small one that goes to a rail that connects to the turbo, what is this and could it be my problem?

thanks

this is where it starts at the front of the fuel pump

this is where it split, and from here it goes to the turbo near where the intercooler starts

i have connected it back but still have the same problem

and also the engine is still in the original car so there shouldnt be an issue with pats like i say it was running fine till this morning, i know the previous owner and he had no problems

i'll go out have a look at mine now.

also pats issue can come from nowhere, basically it wont switch the stop solenoid on the pump hence blocking fuel flow. get someonw to turn ignition on and off and listen to the pump see if you hear it clicking, also you could check/clean the pumps wiring connector as that can give trouble

ah yeah i see the pipe you mean, where yours connects to the metal pipe there you need a clip or tie wrap on that.

i don't think its causing the starting problem though

thanks mate

ive just tried bumping it and it started then died again, now the battery is too dead to turn it over :nutter:

just waiting on a friend to bring a booster pack to give it another go, will listen out for the click when he gets here

the solenoid will enable on stage2 ignition so flicking back and forth from stage 1 & 2 should be hearing it click then, also check that pump connector as that was the reason mine wouldn't start

thats what i thought, it looks like its been split for some time and like i say the previous owner had no problems with starting

i've run out of diesel before with my van and had trouble getting it started again, a good bump start sorted it last time.

whats the normal procedure when you've run out of diesel? its currently at the bottom of a hill so bump starting isnt really an option till i can get a tow back to the top(which is looking like tomorrow and i really wanted the engine out by then)
