Richie_Si
Just a quick message to say that I have completed my RAF Phase 1 Recruit Training on Friday with an awesome parade. Weather was a bit poor at the start but it ended up sunny. Had a flyover of 4 Hawk T1s (jets that the Red Arrows use) which was amazing. It has been a tough last few weeks but enjoyable at the same time. Unfortunately I have to go back for a couple of days to do some Admin work and have debriefs but then after that I will be able to start my Phase 2 Trade Training in West London, and then hopefully have some time to get back on the forums! Hope everyone's been okay and look forward to browsing these topics from next week onwards! Edited May 4, 2008 by Richie_Si
ryan_gwa
What trade did you go for? I'm Gen Tech (M) which is two old trades in one (Mechanical Transport Tech & Ground Support Equipment Tech) - two modern apprenticeships basically. Halton sucks the dick, absolutely hated it. Its not hard at all is it Just 9 weeks of testing your patience! Think I had a Herc fly over on mine.
Richie_Si
Yeah a lot of it is testing your patience and mental ability. We had about 15 reflighted overall, either by failing exams and inspections. One girl fired off the rifle after doing an unload so she was put back straight away, thankfully she was pointing it in a safe direction! The timing was spot on with the flyover, down to the second. Fantastic! I'm going for Air Cartographer - basically map work, but will eventually work my way up to the DIGIPAPs section, which is the live maps that come up on the screens in the Eurofighter and other jets. Unfortunately I've got to get back to Halton for 6 o'clock today, so I'm going to have to go, but I will read any more comments when I get back - hopefully Wednesday night, if not then it will be Friday

Craig855S
good stuff, remember u saying. My pass out parade was hilarious. Half of my flight was marching to the calls of the other flights sergeant and the flypast was 1....yes 1...very late...hawk...even so my parents never caught it on camera lol (the jet that is)
Richie_Si
Bludy hell! That sounds like a bit of a mess! Glad mine was near enough spot on. Only thing wrong was someone from the other flight not saluting the Reviewing Officer - who just so happened to be Sir Glenn Torpy! As you might have guessed, I have fortunately escaped Airmen's Development Flight but about 85 of the 120 in the intake didn't AND they have another parade on Friday 'cause the Station Commander wants to leave! Craig855S
Not Exactly the best video but you get the idea........ same as ours that.. grenadier guards do buckingham palace, do the irish guards do regular colour trooping? or are they an infantry unit? i thought only the queens colour sqn and the grenadier guards were parade tastic, everyone else just gets dicked with it occasionally dont they? ive done a few rememberance parades but luckily skipped other ones such as anniversary parades
Richie_Si
Not exactly the best weather to be parading around in though is it! Earlier in the week I got told that my course has been put back two weeks (so the people that failed and got reflighted can catch me up) so I've now got to go back to Halton tomorrow and do guard duty, escorting etc for a fortnight. Hopefully it'll be quite relaxed And another thing - my birthday is on Wednesday so away from home too
