slickescort1981
hey people. ive got the mondy calipers and st170 disc on my car but im looking at doing a couple of track days. obviously im not gonna ruin my normal rims and road tyres so does anyone know if ill be able to get a 15" steel wheel over the brakes or whether ford ever made a 16" one thats not a space saver?and yes i have been contemplating a cheap set of alloys but like the look of steels on track (plus if i buckle it i can bash it back into shape on the day )

Trig
16 inch mondeo allys will go over your brakes, and you can pick up the 4 spokes pretty cheap, just need to shove track tyres on them.

Charley
mondeo alloys are 5 stud are they not? The MK3 and newer are 5 stud but I'm sure the Mk1 and Mk2 Mondeo's are 4 stud

TEZ the ones in my sig are 16's and it was a tight fit ill admit, but got 17's now. was just playin with ideas as 17 inch tyres can be had cheap but handlings not at its best, 16's should handle better but more expensive(usually) due to being less common, and 15's would be perfect. oh well, damn my quest for big ones!!!! . . . . brakes that is! Stu
if your destroying tyres and wheels at a track day you shouldnt be on the track Normal road tyres overheat quickly on a track and quickly perish, even if you're very considerate to them.
slickescort1981
if your destroying tyres and wheels at a track day you shouldnt be on the track too true never been on the track myself as yet but been watchin a few that friends have been to and just wanna be prepared with a set only for track use incase of flat tyres, etc. if your destroying tyres and wheels at a track day you shouldnt be on the track Normal road tyres overheat quickly on a track and quickly perish, even if you're very considerate to them.and u saying that reminds me of an evo 8 that destroyed a brand new set of tyres in just under half hour on track

mutley
Maybe you just don't drive very hard mutley? well ive spun the ST at bedford so i think i drive it plenty hard enough sorry but if you doing that to the tyres you must have crap tyres... ive done loads of trackdays (not just a session at ford fair) and never ever caused that much damage to my tyres.. fair enough if you have a powerful car and spend most of the time sideways but on an escort..... toyo proxes PX4's so not crap, i was just driving like a mentalist with not quite enough pressure in my tyres toyo are known to be very soft compund so thats more than likely the issue then as well. goodyear eagles on the ST and after 70+ hard miles around brands hatch the tyres are fine still.. if anything i get through more front brake pads
