bobbee
Hi Guys, I'm new on this forum. I just bought a nice Ford Escort Mk6 Wagon from 2000. I'm really happy with it but I would like to install a remote control for opening the car and opening the boot. I already searched this forum but couldn't find the right answer....Could someone tell me which colors to use for what? Thanks! Bob
1pukkadeal
depends on what model of estate you have ,as aftermarket alarms come with this feature for around £50 ,also no such thing as a escort mk 7 BTW
bobbee
Hi, thanks for your reply! I got an Escort Centrury. I don't know what you need to know exactly...so here are some pictures: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/steampit/Untitled-1.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/steampit/Untitled-3.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/steampit/Untitled-6.jpg Thanks for your help! 1pukkadeal
The only reason I asked what model you had was due to different levels of security that were fitted on a few models I believe the century is called the finesse here ,central locking is earth triggered for lock and unlock function as is the boot release ,An aftermarket alrm will be a far better option rather than just a door opener ,I will get wiring colours for you later once at work as I cant remember them off the top of my head
bobbee
So an aftermarket alarm is easier to install? I thought it would be more difficult to install....so which one do you recommand? Thanks for your help!!!
bobbee
I have a security chip in the key. Is that what you mean?So an aftermarket alarm is easier to install? 1pukkadeal
the chip in the key just lets you start your car ,a geniune ford alarm is basic and a pain in the backside as well as expensive ,depends on your budget but a good reliable alarm like the scorpion SA 30 is available for around £50 and straight forward to fit ,but the more you spend the higher level of quality you will get Edited May 11, 2008 by 1pukkadeal
bobbee
Sounds good, I will look for that car alarm then. What is the best place to install the reciever in the car (where do all the wires come together you need for installing the alarm) Do you already know which colors to use for what? Then I will take a look in the car to see if everything is as described. Thanks again!
1pukkadeal
quite a few dealers sell this alarm on ebay ,and they supply you the wiring diagram too ,nearly all the wires you want are all in the fusebox and drivers side kick panel area
bobbee
I've found it on Ebay! But if I install this alarm instead of just a remote control, do I have to fix an extra 12volt wire etc...? Isn't easier to just install a remote control then?

Isn't easier to just install a remote control then? if your car does not have remote control locking as standard ,its NOT just a case of buying a remote and it will work as many components will be missing to make the system work which are all expensive ,so the easiest and cheapest way of doing this is to just fit an alarm
bobbee
I know, but I have central locking, only no remote control. If I install something like this: http://cgi.ebay.de/Funkfernbedienung-Golf-...1QQcmdZViewItem it should work. It worked on a Mitsubishi I had before. Or is there something I don't know? Thanks! 1pukkadeal
your car at the end of the day so its your choice ,why go to the trouble of installing this when it has no security features ,seems pretty pointless
bobbee
You're right, but I thought it would be alot more work than just put in a remote control unit. Could you tell me what you have to do for installing the Alarm unit? Thanks!

Could you tell me what you have to do for installing the Alarm unit? Thanks! The point seems to be lost between me to you .yes your car has central locking but it does NOT have the capability for REMOTE central locking as loads of other items need to be bought and installed which are more expensive than an alarm system ,and wiring is involved too ,whatever you buy in the way of an aftermarket alarm will have the wiring instructions with it ,ford remote systems have poor range and do sod all to be honest
