Superchips and the like.....

I'm not relly seeing the point of keeping my St170 atm as its costing me a fortune as all i'm doing is motorway runs from the barracks to home, 360 miles each way, every weekend,

I'm pretty sure i read somewhere quite a while ago that certain chips, as well as adding power to your car, at the flick of a switch you can also stick it into "valet" mode or similar,

meaning that it can reduce the power, which would help me greatly on the long slog on the motorway,

could someone in the know clarify this for me and maybe point me in the right direction of whether thay exist or not

a bit gutting really, as per a previous post, my car is killin me in fuel bills, and i cant afford to change my car, as its on finance and dealers are offering me pi$$ take trade-ins on what its actually worth,

got offered 3k today so i jus hung up...... why do dealers not take into account the options on a vehicle when they trade it in but make a fuss out of them when they sell it on.....

well yes sure you pointed out to make money, but do they have my car? no, meaning i thought their offer was a pi$$take,

they can tell the type of customer they have in front of them by the way they talk, i know all there is to know about my car yet they offer me stupid money... pointless as i'd just walk away,

plus its not that its so bad in fuel economy its jus that i'm not enjoyin the car now as it is ONLY used for 700miles minimum a week runs, and until i get based closer i want/need something thats cheaper to run, as i'm lowering the value of my car loads by slamming the milage on it.

Can you not save up and buy something that will be OK on petrol? It might just take a while as you say you don't have money :P

thats really the reason i have a car on finance, as i cant afford to buy outright, been thinkin along the lines of a diesel beemer of around the 2002 onwards mark, fair few about, plus their in my price range but i really dont want to let my focus go for the money they have offered me :(

where are u based and where do u live and why do u commute so much, why not live where ur based?

700 miles a week is shocking...a diesel will reduce ur costs by about 35 - 50% if driven right..but TBH id just live where im based.fcuk commuting that far each weekend...if u cant afford to commute then the job aint worth commuting for.

chips do CLAIM to improve MPG at lower throttle positions than OEM..IMO it does work. the superchip i had on my 1.8 mondeo ECU helped me see the MOST MPG ive EVER SEEN in ANY escort. 450 to the tank

it wasnt a different mode though,i dont know of a chip that has selectable modes

All the improved fuel economy stuff is blah.. when you're on part-throttle/cruise, the ECU runs in a closed loop mode to maintain an air:fuel ratio of Lambda 1.0. The oxygen sensor on the car can only read Lambda 1.0, so you can't configure it to run 'leaner' in closed-loop (practically)..
