carl2006 Posted May 19, 2008 Share Posted May 19, 2008 Hi i have a 1.8TD and its started to take longer to start after its been stood for the night and i had to charge the battery up for a few hours before it would start. I assumed it was a problem with the battery as it come with the car i thought i'll buy a new one and all was well for about 5-6 and now its starting to take longer to start again. So with it been a new battery where would i look to next i assume its the starter but im not sure and is there anyway to check the starter would be working properly. any help would be appreicated thanks carl Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

fox3 Posted May 19, 2008 Share Posted May 19, 2008 Mine does this. I'd imagine it will be an air leak into the fuel pipes, when parked up it allows the fuel to run back to the tank. When you turn the key, it spins the pump and sucks up all the air before the fuel.good place to start, check for splits in the spill pipes connecting the injectors, they have a habit of splitting at the bottom where you push them onto the barb. does it start easier if you preheat it several times? Thanks for the replys it cud be an air leak as my drive is on a bit of a slope. I will check the pipes you suggested in the morning and try preheating it a few times first as i've never tried that.
