wwwd
Right, I've got a laptop and it runs Vista. I've had it a while and let's just say I hate it. So I'll probably get rid of it on eBay or something, but I wanted to know if I can still buy a new laptop anywhere which has XP installed on it? PC World, Dixons, Staples, etc. all have laptops but they all come pre-installed with Vista as the OS. And I don't really want to install XP on my current laptop because I'm guessing the drivers for the particular model won't be available for XP. Does anyone have any decent suggestions?? Stu
I'd be very surprised if you had a problem running XP on your current laptop.
smithyandco
XP... As long as the version of Vista on the laptop isn't x64 then there shouldn't be a problem porting the "Vista" drivers over to XP. Install XP on it! Or go to somewhere like Morgan Computers (usually have XP based Laptops)
Stu
Morgan Computers.. that's a name i've not heard for a while (used to love their little online auction site, until it got popular)... 64-bit drivers aren't really a problem for XP anymore..
stuey650
pick a model of laptop, even if it comes with vista go to the support pages of the manufacturer and check under that model if they list xp drivers. If they do it will be compatible, if they don't then maybe stay away. I'd personalyl still buy a laptop which is shipped with vista so that in the future if need be you will have a licenced copy. Also in 3-4 years if you wanted to sell the laptop no-one will want an XP laptop by then but a vista one should sell easier.

Woogie
Careful with trying to go to xp with a new laptop Scoop.. We have recently ordered some Acer and Sony Vaio laptops through work, went to put XP on them and they havent actually released ANY xp drivers at all for the laptops, only vista drivers.. Who says you need to use HP's site for drivers? Look around... There will be XP drivers for your hardware... "Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family Driver" will probably be covered in an Intel all-in-one driver pack. GeForce/GeForce Mobile drivers are available from the nVidia website for most OSs "Conexant High-Definition Audio Driver" Conexant should have released a XP driver or their site. etc etc Just need to do your homework, rob drivers from your current installation or rob the drivers from the probable "Restore" CD/DVD that will have come with the Laptop.
