Is this a good price for a car with these miles etc? I spoke to the guy earlier and he said it has 11 months MOT, taxed til august and runs well.

its all down to history and overall condition really but that figure is above average unless its mint and a rust free example

I paid £700 for my last escort so I will try and drive the price down a bit, does £700 sound about right? Are there any particular trouble area's I should be looking at when buying an escort? Anything in particular I should check? Any other advice?

look for rust everywhere especially the arches, Also make sure it drives straight with no spearing off when lifting off and on the accelerator. General wear and tear service history cam belts etc..... Also HPI check. Make sure it idles ok and there's no cold start issues. Finally when negotiating prices give him a figure a bit lower than you wanna pay and then go up if he doesn't accept.

apart from the usual which is wheel arch rust and on bottom of the doors and tailgate ,also lift up the boot carpet and look for water getting in the boot ,cambelt history is a must or you will need to get it done asap if you buy it ,and test drive it trying out brakes and clutch.all the normal stuff really ,but if its ok on all the above points then £700 is average and ok, if cambelt or clutch need doing you will need to get another £200 knocked off for each

Me and chrisje have both picked up 3dr escorts in recent weeks for around that price, but with some mods already on there such as wheels, exhaust and air filter and slightly higher mileage. Price sounds OK, but you can probably find cheaper if you wait long enough and are willing to travel....

But yeah, don't expect a lot of car for anything under a grand.
