Bet you've lost count of the man hpurs that's gone into this!! can't wait to see the finished result, good on ya! well i started the van project back in october 2007, ive spent atleast 3 out of 7 days a week on it. The first idea was just to board out the back and insulate it coz me and my mates used to sit in the back and it would get cold after 10 min before. but after a day or so i had a letter saying lost my lisance so i desided to put my sound system in as i was off the road.that was going to be it but as the back looked good i desided the front needed a do up so did that. i was surpost to leave it at that. but i couldnt leave it alone so desided it needed a respray so started rubbing it down.then i wanted a body kit, so borght a cossie kit, spoiler, front and rear bumper. but When i took it to the bodyshop thay refused to do it coz the sills were rusted out and he said i wasnt worth it. and that the kit would just crack. i was going to scrap it but love this van to much. so started collage on a welding corse and repaired all the rust on the van and totally did it over. ive already spent £2300 from the start plus the £500 the van cost and that aint including the amps or speakers and subs.i still need to finish the build and spray the van, need new surspention, wheels, brakes, exhaust, got to buy the engine tune and turbo that. then buy all the crome bits for thew engine and all the odd bits and bobs. wont be surprized if i spend over 10 grand on this van. it is stupid but want to make one hell of a car Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

A very sharp chissel and a grinder with a wire brush wheel for the worst stuff e.g the sound deadnin and 40/80 grit emmery cloth or sandpaper to rub down the rest.Shotblasting was what i wanted but for the cost of getting one strong enough to do the job would of been to much.besides it dosent take that long once you get into it. but be warned. doing this reveals all sorts of nastys. so be prepered to get the welder out if you do. Was Going to but as i havent done that sort of metal work it seemed to hard for the shape i wanted.alot of curves. the arches were a spur of the moment thing for me so i want them to be simple Cool project good move going against cossie styling, thats so 1990's! lairdie Posted October 24, 2008 Share Posted October 24, 2008 (edited) just read back a few posts missed the bit where the bodyshop said your kit would crack, not if you use bodyfiller to stick it on.grind the inside of the fibreglass where it touches the panels grind the panels to bare metal at the same points clean them with thinners to remove the dust.buy a kilo tin not that waste of money in the pics, a kilo is 4 times the size and will cost about £14 max.trial fit and screw into place, then remove one part apply the filler, refit using screws to realign it, let it harden fully.grind the fibreglass and fill again to blend in.you should manage fine going by what ive seen you do so far, bodyfiller wont crack if the prep is done properlydont fit kits with sealer the rubber moves causing the filler to crack,your bodyshop are doing it wronglook at my pics all my mods are done with filler not p40, i have fitted bodykits for years.trust me it does work, good luck with the arches how much for the kit if your not using it??? Thanks for the tip, i will give it a go on my GTi as the kit may be going on there now, so i wont sell it yet just incase Your van is very nice by the way, there are some cool little details on it.
