right im fitting an rs turbo gearbox to my car, and i was wondering if anyone knows how much power this gearbox will take before it explodes

any help will be much apreciated

about 180 i think (read it in fastford once)

Is the gearbox new, rebuilt, 2nd's ???? etc......

There fairly strong as long as you aint stupid with em and dont just ram em into gear (too quick) or give it death in first.

All depends on the condition and your drivin style I suppose. Heard of boxes goin under and over 200 BHP so some people are lucky, some aint. I know a lad with a 250bhp zetec turbo with 300lbft and his rebuilt RST box lasted over 10,000 miles with 1/4 sprints and hard drivin untill finally letting go racin a twin turbo Supra!! He has again used another rebuilt box. Note though, theres a lot of difference between a re-con box and a properly built one.

I've got an RST box in mine and had no trouble whatsoever for the 3000 miles I got to use it. But most of them miles were, 1000 miles runnin in and then the rest at low boost probally around 150 - 160 bhp. Did do around 60 miles with the power probally around 180 - 190 bhp though, but then a piston gave up instead!

Currently having the box rebuilt (Just to make sure) by the bloke who built the RST box mentioned above.

So I guess only time will tell.

my FRST was 199bhp box was no problem my S1 175bhp no problem and i know of loads of members in the South Wales RS club running around 200bhp on a standard box with no failures.

So unless your going for more than 200bhp no need to worry :D
