on friday i went to a "cant get quicker than a ???????? fitter" with my other car for a new back box. but they then showed me that the front pipe and cat was about to fall off so i asked how much extra to do that. the cat was £286.76 and the front pipe was £126.79 plus vat total cost £485.92. so i said no and just paid for the back box. they get all most of there parts from a local motor factors down the road so on saturday i went there and paid £63.51 for the cat and £41.55 for the front pipe then went to a local garage who charged me £80 to fit it (2 hour job) total cost £185.06 saving me a whopping £300.06... just goes to show how much profit most of the bigger firms are making.

Last time i went to " one of those " places was to get my tracking done and it was a while you wait job, so i watched the bloke get in to my car, back it up on to the ramp and reverse it into a metal piller !! Wasn't that pleased to say the least !

 

Now for jobs like that i've got a decent local garage and get the work done there, but most of the work i do myself !

As a Kwik Fit staff member, i can say we are fcuking struggling as the prices that we are charging are sometimes a fcuking joke.

The smaller local firms aways out do us on prices, the depot i work from are offering mot's @ 29.95 at the mo. That offer has been on for the last 4 months, we have, in the same road, 4 local tyre and exhaust firms and ATS.

 

So we have a lot of competion. We do suffer from that quite badly, the pay is not that bad. But for the what company wants out of yourself is a fcuking joke, we have targets for..

 

Tyres, valves, balance, serivicing and mot, trackings, shocks Everything including VSK's Which are the little chrome valve covers. Any of these targets missed. You would not get belive the Shite we get for it. I have considered leaving Kwik Fit and going to a smaller local firm but i like the fact that i know my job is safe with Kwik Fit.

Its a shame the motor trade is suffering like this, my garage is too, and we've just lost one our biggest customers that sends all their cars to us so now the future isnt looking good I can tell you, searching the job websites every night now

I notice that in towns n cities when i'm out delivering to shops, you get one tyre place then another and another and some main dealers all on the same road!!! why not spread themselves across town to spread the net for customers business??! You'd rarely find Tesco next door to Asda although i'm sure someone will tell me where there is one!!!
