Most people that drive them are completely bald....... is it only me thats noticed this?

repair costs! :D

I've noticed the bald drivers actually :innocent:

As with any Ford, i'm sure rust is a huge problem, but it depends if it was owned by an enthusiast i guess.

Wouldnt say rust was that big a problem on them tbh, although they do tend to go around the petrol cap on the BTs
I read the other day about a bloke that had a 4x4 saff and he was told he had to change all 4 tyers at the same time to protect the diffs

I wouldnt say that was correct. Replacing the tyres on an axle is what you should do, change both fronts at the same time, both rears at the same time, but not necessarily all 4.

I would try and keep all tyres are a similar rolling diameter... saves extra load on the transfer box.

Anyway.. with regards to what to check.. the only thing i'd check really would be that the shell is original and straight and that there is no rust. I wouldn't buy a cossie with the blind idea that the engine is going to be perfect and last 50k miles or that anything else on it won't need repairing to be honest.

A basic engine rebuild is around £3k, gearbox isn't that expensive actually - only about 400 quid for a std exchange unit from Ford..

I won't own an Escort Cosworth as I know i'd have to spend at least £15k on it to make it how i'd want it (knowing exactly what is possible).. Unfortunately ignorance IS bliss as the knowledge I have means i'd HAVE to spend lots of money.. haha
