Being out in the falklands and not using my mobile at all i have phoned vodafone to reduce my tariff from the huge 45 a month plan to the lowest one thay do (circa 25 a month) but voda have told me i can only lower the tariff down 1 tariff at a time so i must go from 45 to 40,then in a month i can go to 35,then a month later to 30,and so on

Meaning instead to saving 20 quid a month every month from now on i will only save 5 this month,10 next,15 the next and 20 the next. wasting 30 quid over the 3 month period unnecesarily.

Now O2 done this to me last year, when i got rid of the phone and tried to save myself money by dropping the tariff to the bottom one from the top one. the second moth i phoned them however the call centre worker told me that this was bullshite and dropped me from the second highest to the lowest in one fell swoop and backdated it too.

What im trying to find out is "is this tactic an illegal way of conning me out of money" im gonna phone em up and question them soon but as it costs me money out here to phone the UK (i have to use landlines using my weekly phone cards that are for phoning family, not spending half an hour on hold to twats) so i thought id get peoples opinions?

Just found this on the voda site

"With Vodafone you can move to a price plan at a lower price point after 9 months. You can then move one step down the price plan ladder once a month. If you need more minutes, you can move at any time. This means you can keep pace with your needs as they change."

altho i dont think this can be legal

Normal across the board... although it's usually available half way through your contract period so I assume your on an 18 month contract.

It's legal and they don't have to offer this as you agreed to the price for the full term of the contract.

Although saying that the advisers have more discretion than they usually let on... so getting them to drop the contract more than one level (as described in your T&Cs) is solely dependant on how the advisor's day is, what mood there in and how much you Pee them off.

Keep phoning, if that fails then send a letter via recorded delivery and you may get somewhere! :thumb:

cheers for the advice guys. It started as an 18 month contract but got extended after a few weeks to 24 months cos they offered me 40 quid off my first bill. Good job its a phone worth keeping for 2 years. Ill phone back on 12th august and see if i can lower it from 40 to...as low as possible,if they say 35 then fairy muff

I'm not sure if it's legal but my internet tried to do that, so I just cancelled my isp and then renewed my subscription just before they disconnected me on the lowest rate.. Now I get free internet mind you.. According to speedtest I live in Yorkshire on Tiscali, when I live in Suffolk on Pipex :/

with phone companys a phone call along the lines of "regretfully going to cancel......." normaly get you some freebies :thumb:
