Posted July 22, 200816 yr Right i wired in the front fogs friday evening... all ok *well ther was a broken bulb in 1* just now finished wiring in the Gti seat *to the Orange/White central locking wire and used the earth behind the kick panel* changed the bulb in the foglamp and they both wont turn on... the fuse hasnt blown, and the light on the switch is on i need help
July 22, 200816 yr Author still need help... just a guess... because i joined the earth from the seat to the one on the kick panel instead of the one in that bundle of cables would that be it?
July 22, 200816 yr An earth is an earth no matter where you connect it.It was definitely an earth you connected into yes ??Black wire bolted to the body of the car ?Also as the two systems are completely different circuits,One shouldnt affect the other.Check the work you have done including the bulb fitment in the fogs.Really cant think why these issues would arise after fitting the seat unless you have dislodged or removed a wire from a different circuit while messing around in the footwell ?
July 23, 200816 yr well for one I would not have joined into that live wire as it is part of entirely different circuit ,which may or may not be the cause of any problems you have and check the earth goes to a decent earth .but hopefully thats not the issue as for the lights its a checklist really, perhaps the wire that feeds the fogs has a break or a short in it,relay/switch or bad earth again you should invest in a multimetre as it saves so much messing about with auto electrics,a good one only costs £10
July 23, 200816 yr That wire is the feed used by ford so how is it wrong ?Fuse 30 20A central locking and powered seats ??Orange/Yellow wire splitting to Orange/Blue and Orange/White.Orange/White splitting again to feed powered drivers seat.It is the wire used in the standard build
July 23, 200816 yr Author what i think im gonna do is disconnect the seat and put the wires back... hav a check... if that fails i'll have a lot of poking and fiddling about to do am i right in think though that the issue is power from the switch to the fogs? because the little green light goes on thanks for the help so far guys how do you know so much
July 23, 200816 yr Daft question but worth asking..You did check the fog bulbs ??Hold the feed wire onto a known positive (battery)Earth light body to chassis. If the lights work use a test lamp and work backward through any connections till you find the problem.Worth mentioning you arent supposed to touch the fog light bulb glass as it can create hot spots and blow the bulbs
