i think these people qouted me £400 for a rear heated screen.just phone around until you get good price.

find your nearest rac auto windscreens and pop in or just hunt through yellow pages ,you can get them supplied and fitted for around £100 if you shop around
WHAT!! :O .... bloody hell never knew they cost that much.... :( fcuk goes my MOT :(
As pukka says, shop around and you'll be able to get one for around a ton. I had quotes of £330+ for a replacement screen but managed to get one for £90 all in :thumb: .
if you go fully comp on your insurance it will only cost you around £50 all inclusive and it does not effect your no claims bonus

Go to a scrap yard near you and cut a screen out of a car.

I know someone local to you that can glue it in very cheaply

He also comes to you to do it

If you need his number let me know ;)

theres a little bit more than that isnt there ,such as removing the wipers and scuttle panel ,and there is a 80% you will need a new trim when refitting,so things are never as quite straight forward as they seem

Oh yes...

2 x 13mm nuts to undo and 6 screws

as for the rubber trim it is just that, a trim....

The glass is bonded in thats why I said cut one out at a scrapyard.

If you dont want to do a 1/2 hours work to save yourself 300 quid Pukka fair enough.

I prefer to do a bit of work and save a lot of money.

But then again I also have the tools and knowhow to do most jobs properly myself.

you seem to forget your telling people on here that may have never seen a long blade or a kent knife in their life let alone know what they actually are and think they can go along with a household stanley and take 5 minutes, thats not the case is it ,also you dont mention the trim as you nearly always need a new one too,I have a NVQ in automotive glazing for the record as I teach people how to remove and refit glass at my ford dealership in london

But its not just a rubber trim.

If you are careful then the trim can be saved, I have used the same one on the 2 windscreens I have had fitted.

It is definitely something a novice should not have a go at on their own, there is usually a bit of skin and blood floating around if you dont know what you are doing.

Ring round the independant plant glazers in the local pages, iit will more than likely cost less than a ton. I know of a very good company in the north west, around Manchester, if that is of any use.

So true that as one of the first things we show trainees is safety then the first aid kit :pancake:

yep, nothing shits you up much more than standing on a wonky table, supporting the windscreen of a DAF CF as you are using a massive blade to cut the very, very heavy slab of glass out which is pushing you backwards with its mass. Car screens are a piece of pee in comparison
ill get one on insurance :)... thought they affected the no claims or make my insurance higher...

no not at all ,fully comp or glass protection cover means you just pay the excess with no effect to your no claims

we are posh now trig we have platform ladders for the big rigs and ivecos that come in or we take them to the hgv pit and raise ourselves up to the screen level, did a few on emergency call out years back on the side of the road, that gets the ticker going as you can immagine
