car was overheating this evening... majorly... rite to the red within seconds.... got it home, got the torch under and theres a constant drips coming from the belt on the alternator (am i right to say its the timing belt?) and about a foot further in... just a guess but am thinking new water pump... so a mechanic or water pump and some estimated prices would be good... will only hav about £100 to spend this weekend... not sure thats any good.

need the car for next weekend... hence the urgentness... other wise its £200 to rent a vw

to just do thw water pump would be madness. £30 - £50 shopuld get you a pump a cambelt kit for about £50 the a competant mechanic an hours labour, maybe 1hr 30mins

have done a bit of reading... would the water be coming from a worn gasket?? if so could i just switch that?

COULD MODS MOVE THIS INTO THE MECHANICAL SECTION....

We've moved this topic into the correct section.

CHEERS!

right more to add.... started the car up to take it to the garage... the battery light stayed on :( the mechanics 1st impression was the belt fell off... but is still intact...

ugh this bloody car!

well if the belt came off the engine would be fuct. Aux belt drives the water, steering pump and alternator. if it is the gasket i would change the pump and belts and pullys.
