Posted July 25, 200816 yr Hi Everyone.Ive got a big stone chip in the top right of my windscreen, isnt getting any bigger and had it for some time now and not in view but have been thinking of changing it.I want to fit a heated front windscreen with a tinted top,do these still exist??????Also is the wiring loom fitted but folded or taped up somewhere in a ford manor somewhere crazy or is that only fitted on the ghia models???? How easy would that to fit and has anyone had this done or fitted them selves?? Will there be any other wiring involved? fuses etc.Sorry all these questions.... If you dont know ask....Look forward to reading the replies.
July 25, 200816 yr you need a heated windscreen, obviously lol and the windscreen loom, they are rare though i got the cnace to get the loom, but then couldnt find the glass, but there is a site somewhere, google it to find the place that makes them

July 25, 200816 yr Quick question... why three posts of the same thing? I'm guessing you thought it didn't go through?
July 25, 200816 yr heated top tint windscreens are made ,but you will have to pay through the nose for them as they are special order only and cost around £360 just for the glass, and no the loom is not there by the way as ford only fit the back to the fusebox part ,not the engine bay loom part Edited July 26, 200816 yr by 1pukkadeal
July 26, 200816 yr Steve,May seem a daft question (but I'm full of those)If you did decide to go ahead and do this could you use the heated screen loom from a ghia If you stripped it outor would it be easier to use a complete ghia loom instead ?

July 27, 200816 yr Author Yeah.... Sorry for the four or more posts...Got a bit excited by it all...lol.Thanks for all the help, may have to take a trip to a scrap yard or something and hunt for one.Sounds like an easier option, just thought fords may of had that option/loom already fitted and tucked away somewhere behind the dash. The swines...........................
July 27, 200816 yr Had a look at mine earlier tonight and its some heavy wiring in the engine bay and a relay hidden behind the battery area.Didnt even think about it till you asked here If you can find a ghia in a scrappy and can take it out yourself it should be easy enough to do but the wiring does seem to be in engine bay and behind the dash so may mean the removal of a lot of bits for a whim.Having said that Im stripping my complete interior out just to replace with another colour cos I dont suit beige
July 28, 200816 yr if ghias have heated windscreen why dont you buy one from the scrappies? 2nd hand glass is very risky unless removed by a pro ,as the wiring can be damaged as well as flexing the glass can cause elements to fail ,as well as not being able to try the glass until fitted and no way of knowing if its faulty or not ,so its a false economy
July 28, 200816 yr Another daft question as I already hijacked this thread once .......I now have a 98 up type fusebox and all the internal wiring of the car.If I shove all this lot in will the engine bay wiring still be ok in its original 96/97 configuration with the later fusebox or will I have to get the later version of the engine bay loom as well ?Apologies in advance about the heated windscreen thread.
July 28, 200816 yr Tricky one as it may be fine ,the later ones have additional sockets on some models
July 28, 200816 yr Tricky one as it may be fine ,the later ones have additional sockets on some modelsI did fit the later type fusebox once before but found nothing internally worked properly. Thats why I just took the complete internal wiring one out of a GTi with the later type fusebox.but the engine bay wiring was already detached and gone.just hoping that end of things remained the same and hoping to plug that and my ghia heated screen into it and all be good.Guess all I can do is lay it all out and see..If its still wrong then I may need a pinout drawing of the engine bay to fusebox connections Good thing is its only one last plug to mess with ( i think )
