Just picked the car up from the garage... bloke had a quick look and has told me i need.

1. New alternator

2. New water pump

3. New thermostat/sender

GRRR! hasn't got a quote sorted for me yet... but wanna shop about before i commit.... so does anyone know roughly how much this will cost me? if its quite a bit i may consider breaking / scrapping the car.

£120 in parts but depends on where you shop plus their fitting charges

Just nip to the scrappy & pick the lot up, thermostat is easy, alternator no problem, not sure on the water pump but i shouldnt imagine its that hard.

Certainly not a scrapping situation tbh.

Why give up?

To be honest if you scrap/break it, you may make money in the short term, but then you'll likely buy another one which will also have its fair share of issues...

For the waterpump dont forget the cambelt has to come off :)

lol tbh im not mechanically minded :P will try to do little bits but when its comes to under the bonnet i'll leave it to the pros :D

i was told 6 hrs labour... would lets say allow £250? be ok or reckon a bit more? also is there any one on here? :D would rather pass it your way :D

would an alternator and thermostat from an mk6 escort van be the same as i need?

Just got a "fairly new" alternator £30 :) and its being delivered to me. 1 down 2 to go :D
first dibs on wheels if you break!! lol no seriously id repair and keep. :thumb:
its not worth taking a thermostat out of a scrap car, they should only cost about a tenner new from a motor factors. Round your way I would expect a waterpump to cost 30-40 notes. And while the waterpump has to come off, you might as well fit a new timing belt kit, which should cost £70 tops (fordpartsuk.com). I would imagine the labour on that would be about 3 hours to be honest, maybe 4 hours.
do it ur self mate, get the manual out, not the hardest jobs to do, but def not worth paying labour charge for someone to do them, someone on here should be able to help

no need to scrap it,i would have a look at doing it yourself, there will be quite a few on here the same, and do not or did not know what to and had to learn,so i would do it yourself and then u have learned how to do it and save £200 +
