i have been told you can cut the springs on an escort to lower the car is this true and how do you know how much to cut?

all i can say, i would NEVER cut springs EVER!! safety 1st and it aint safe at all. not reccomended

Of course you can cut the springs............whether its right or not is another thing!! Get the proper lowering springs or dont bother at all

i take it that is a bad thing to do then

 

how much are some lowerin springs then and has any one got any

ebay, search through the for sale threads, they dont cost much, cost less than something going wrong by cutting springs

 

dont be tight, do a proper job! always the best thing in the long run

glad i asked befor i got let lose with the angle grinder haha some of the other forums i was on were sayin this is the best thing to do cos you can do any height you want but hey im going with you guys im going to buy some lowerd springs

the standard springs are set at a certain length, to retain the rebounds etc, if you take some of the coils off, you will have a horrible ride, lose handling and controls

 

when you buy lowered springs, the rebound is suited to the desired lowered ammount, if that makes sense,

 

standard springs arent desighned to be 40 mm lowered, 60mm etc, othewise they would be

 

imo cutting standard ones would probably weaken them

 

out of curisosty what club said to cut them?

you can get -40mm springs from ebay from around £50 posted, put down the powertools and no-one will get hurt (seriously)

never fcuk with safety ,unless your a pro and know exactly what your doing = end of

well speeking to my dad every one used to do it to their old old old old old mini's but aparenty they neva cut the spring(bad idea) they cut a cone or somthing and aparently that was a safe thing to do he said neva cut a spring with some of the older cars there is things you can do to lower the height but no th spring way and i cant rember the site im afraid i have try to look but cant find it i have a feelin it has a **bad boy** or somthing in there or i mite be thinking of the bad boy bonnet

Yeah but standard minis dont have any sprin gs in their suspension system.

They run on isolastic cones ansd a totally different way of dealing with shock absorbtion
