1). If I removed the silencer box from my system, would it fail the MOT?

2). If I removed the silencer AND cat, would it then me classed as a straight-through system? (I know it fails on emissions without a cat)

3). If I WERE to remove silencer box, would I lose any back-pressure?

4). If I removed the cat would it lose back-pressure?

5). What about if I removed both, what performance loses/gains am I looking at?

Cheers

1) No. but there is the chance of it being too loud - I doubt it.

2) No, you have 2 silencers and a cat to remove before its straight through.

3) Yes

4) Yes

5) Lots of myths regarding this. I done it for the noise, do not expect a noticeable performance increase.

Remove the silencer and you run the risk of being pulled..... :innocent:
Whats wrong with removing a silencer?
It's loud.
Yeah but its no different to any other modded car on the road. Ive never been pulled for my exhaust?
Whats wrong with removing a silencer?

Regulation 54 constuction and use :innocent:

(Regulation 54(1) states – Every vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine shall be fitted with an exhaust system including a silencer and the exhaust gasses from the engine shall not escape into the atmosphere without first passing through the silencer)

As said before, theres 2.
As said before, theres 2.

Regulation 54(2) states – Every exhaust system and silencer shall be maintained in good and efficient working order and shall not after the date of manufacture be altered so as to increase the noise made by the escape of exhaust gases

as i say you run the risk!

Oh right never knew that lol. Weird.

Yeh everyone runs the risk, but ive had a straight thro system for 3 years before me magnex system, got pulled so many times, not once was i asked about the exhaust,

The only type of police that will tug you is traffic police, they not really interested in noise unless its mentally loud, but they will look underneath for a catalytic converter, or probe the exhaust for a on spot gas test. if ur gonna get rid of the cat, id suggest buyin a spare one, opening it up, remove the internals and weld a scaffolding pipe in it, then seal it back up, least that way they can see you have a cat on it, if the probe ya good luck

You can have a straight through exhaust which still has a silencer on it.. go look at any rs turbo silencer..
surly a N/A car still requires a little back pressure?
Yup

Just how much DO the escorts depend/rely on back pressure?
