August 7, 200816 yr You don't want anything too rough.. 800 at the most, but really just wet'n'dry (1200+)..
August 7, 200816 yr umm make sure u rub it right down to the plastic... the top layer will peel off if u paint over it...*self experianced* lol i used some 80 down to the plastic then some fine wet and dry to finish it off... http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm313/ant-storey/PICT0098.jpg
August 7, 200816 yr As said, if you have a normal silvery one, then the paint will react if you dont take it all back to black plastic, the easiest thing to do is paint one of the wood look ones....ive gone amparo blue in my amparo blue gti and it looks spanking:)
August 7, 200816 yr rub it back to the plastic, it stops it reacting, 320 grit then 800. finish it with 1000 or 1200 grit, plastic primer. then primer flatten 1200 then paint
August 8, 200816 yr Before you paint it why not use an isolater? they come in aerosoles and they " isolate" paints that react with each other.I have used them and they definately work.

Where would i get a paint isolator??? Everyone else thanks too sounds like rubbing it down is the best way to go.
August 8, 200816 yr i used really rough sand paper to get the top layer off, then worked up the grades to 1500 grit, the wet dry from 800 back to 1500, it was smoother than a babies bum, but good enough key, prime with 3 coats wet 1500 another 3 coats wet 1500, then 6 coats or colour, take you time. then 1500 wet sanding (really lightly, and i mean lightly to get rid of the orange peel effect left but poly based paint, then 2-4 coats of laquer and bam, one sh*t hot dash surround
August 8, 200816 yr i just did mine the other day, just used some 400 to rough up, 3 primer, 4 top coat 3 laquer, seems good enough, except for the damn fly that decided to commit suicide in the laquer! so rub and blend! lol
August 8, 200816 yr i used plastic primer, it reacted, so stamp on it and threw it in the bin, convinced my self it was a bad idea and to never try again lol
