charlie74
chipping allows you to use "backup copies" of your games to save damaging the original discs,, or something similar

hertsescort
why wat softmod do
Frostic
why wat softmod do Practicly what you can do with a chip, but in a more round about way. I havnt looked into the Wii homebrew scene in a while, but last i checked there was a way to run unsigned code through the Zelda Twighlight Princess game. Have a google for Wii Twighlight Hack, or something along those lines. It lets you run homebrew, so im sure someone has made a games launcher by now. mclovin9091
The site being mentioned above i beleive is: http://www.wiihacks.com/forum.php, lots of information and loads of guys willing to take the pi$$ (i mean help you with problems) soft modding the wii is very easy and as long as you read the guides then you cant go wrong. Some times it does get a bit confusing as what you need to do/ how to do something but the guides are there. If you 'brick' the wii it is very easy to sort, i done it once and fixed the problem with in 5 mins. I can now play my 'backed up' copies of games and not bothered about letting my kid play it either.
Gadge
Soft modding a Wii literately takes 10mins to do. There are many 100's of guides, most even linking directly to the software needed, you really cant go wrong as long as you read fully before you do anything. The most you will need is a SD card. If its a newer model Wii there is the possibility that you wont be able to load games from the drive and will require some kind of external storage i.e hard drive to load the games. The zelda glitch is really old, you just download a package now containing all you need. Edited December 24, 2009 by Gadge
PeeWee
Correct to the above. If you can follow instructions ok then its easy. All the files are available for free and the guides such as messies ones are very clear. wiihacks should be your port of call. Get yourself a nice Lacie 160gig external usb mini drive and you can play them all from that. Take note that backups play 50% slower from disc so the usb option is what you ideally want to be doing. Obviously you should own the games your backing up due to legal reasons. The wii is most probably the most hackable console atm & doesnt offer hd restrictions like Microsoft does. Take time to do the full hack though & install the software that will enable you to unbrick your wii if need be. If your wii is on update 4.2 then use messies guide here clickyIf your on update 3.1-4.1 use this one clickyRemember to sign up to the forum so you can see the download links and read the guide a good few times to familiarise yourself & ensure you know what your doing. gogomollie
Defo PeeWee but disc is the cheaper option. They are simple enough to do yourself most of them come with "read me instructions" but if anyone is local to me and what it done and cant do it there self just pm me. I am in newcastle area and i can also do Ds Lites and DSi too.
