Apnea
I was disconnecting the battery because im removing the steering wheel, (I know and leaving it for hours) but however apon putting my ratchet to the battery terminal a F**k load of sparks came up in my face and I got a bit of a shock. What did I do wrong? I did it earlier to my other car fine....?

Stu
You certainly didn't get "electrocuted", or you wouldn't be typing. You do realise that everything metal on the car is attached to the negative terminal of the battery? So if you put your rathet on the positive terminal and touch something metal with any part of it.. sparks will ensue!

The ratchet didnt touch anything, exept the live terminal, which you need to undo dont you to disconnect the battery? Or is it best to do the negative one? Remeber, volts jolt, current kills. You certainly didn't get "electrocuted", or you wouldn't be typing. Best to undo the negetive terminal therefore if you touch anything apart from the live terminal, nothing will happen.I was undoing the live terminal once not thinking and the ratchet touched my bonnet, what a spark, took a chunk out of the ratchet handle. 123-escortgti
I was electrocuted when i was younger, in germany, where there is no earth connection to plug sockets! I was curled into a ball and thrown all over the place and could untense a single muscle and had blood cominig from my eyes, ears, nose and mouth! Luckily my father grabbed me and overpowered the current! i now have 3 bent fingers and a finger missing from the burns! TRUST me, you know when you've been electrocuted! sidrick
I put my tongue on a square battery once. It was traumatic, but I survived. Edited March 19, 2009 by sidrick
Trig
I was testing a HT lead once, engine running, lead testing plug in the lead, saw the sparks, thought 'yep, thats fine', then grabbed the clamp on the plug tester to release it from the bodywork, completely forgetting that it was earthing the lead. Wont be doing that again.
