a16x_tm
Similair thing happened to my old 96 n reg si, the alternator loom chaffes through on the rad or bracket then shorts out, causing the cable where its point of contact is to get hotter and hotter until it sets fire if ur unlucky, my battery light came on the dash at the same time on mine so I stopped the car had a look round and spotted it. it must have been a common fault or ford recognised it because on my p reg late 97 they have ran the loom differently. Check your alternator looms lads

GHanson2009
Similair thing happened to my old 96 n reg si, the alternator loom chaffes through on the rad or bracket then shorts out, causing the cable where its point of contact is to get hotter and hotter until it sets fire if ur unlucky, my battery light came on the dash at the same time on mine so I stopped the car had a look round and spotted it. it must have been a common fault or ford recognised it because on my p reg late 97 they have ran the loom differently. Check your alternator looms lads Not 100% Sure if this is relivant but my dad had a 99/00 V Reg TDi Finesse and when he was driving along one day a similar set of symptoms happened, he jumped out n called the AA when they arrived his alternator cable had snapped n the AA Bloke "Bodged" it back to get him home, a week later Furrows called and said it was being re-called to replace the fusebox loom and that part of the engine loom, Not sure if its a TDI thing or all of them, i know my P Reg Cab has a nice n slack loom as have both of my old ones (1 zetec, 1 cvh). Fire looks like it was eating alot more than it actually did, your lucky, my old Citroen AX (First car i had) someone threw a birning peice of paper under it, within seconds the back end was on fire and within 2-3 mins the entire car was englufed in flames, your lucky the tyres didnt go being that close! (I know from experience a burning peice of rubber being shot out from a 30psi tyre fooking burns!)

Scort_CVH
Just to let you lot know, this is now running will be driving when its got a PAS cooler ( pm heading your way Escortedal lol) and accelerator cable should be going on today Big thanks to Escortedal Cheers Alex btw, it looks like the PAS pump was running to hot (no fluid) and burned through the altenator loom as this was barley recognisable, other wise parts were just damaged from the heat. really no where near as bad as it looks, think ive spent maybe £100. inc new bonnet, grill, wheel arch liner, pas pump, altenator, radiator, wiring, dipstick, filler cap, coolant res, pas res, hoses, new aux belt (£10 iirc), 5 litre tub of antifreeze. got 2x tyres to swap over, 2 bottom arms and a bumper to paint and fire on.
