98gt
I've finally managed to scrape my way out of debt i.e. I didn't have to go into my overdraft this month. so I've been surfing around and I've found some potential replacements for my Escort. I want at least a 1.6L engine and I have to be able to insure it (I'm not going through the same hassle again as I did with my GT), so no GTi's I'm thinking of selling the Escort before it loses too much of it's value. I saw a 1998 GT for €3500 today Although I've also seen a 1999 GT for €7500I'd really like to stick with a Ford (Fiesta Zetec S maybe?) but finding a good one is hard. Here's what I've found so far, what do ye think? Audi A3 1.8 SECan get insurance for this. Another A3 1.8I really fancy one of these, but I'm not sure about going from a 98 car to a 96 Mazda 323 GTFNot sure about insurance on this though
dansGTI
Zetec S? nice motor, beats a VTR at least (just). stick with Ford tho, you know you wana....
98gt
I want to but I've been looking for a Zetec S for about 3 months and they're either overpriced dealer cars or they've suffered at the hands of the M*x P*wer brigade the A3's are very tempting though 20v, 125Bhp, just imagine it slammed on 18" Porsche Cup Alloys

Lee R
my bro has just bought a nearly new A3 1.8T Sport. VERY slow for what it is, overpriced crap imo built well, yes, but is that the be all and end all?
Mk6 Si Ross
i don't think a 1996 A3 is gonna be quite the same as an A4 Quattro?!!!!
98gt
I ain't after a balls out car like the S3. I'd like a bit of comfort and refinement and the ability to go for a blast when I'm in the mood . Christ I must be getting old . The Escort is a blast to drive but it is a bit lacking in the refinement stakes, and performance to be honest

98gt
Ford Scorpio Ultima 2.9 24v I'd have to put a paper bag over it's head Mazda are half owned by Ford, so that wouldn't be too bad . Did anyone else know that Subaru are part owned by GM!!!
Lee R
Ford Scorpio Ultima 2.9 24v totally and utterly agree!!!! and the ability to go for a blast when I'm in the mood you won't get that with an A3 other than an S3 i'm afraid, even the 1.8T Sport seems a "bore" to drive

Very nice interior too. I like the Mazda cos it's a bit of a "wolf in sheeps clothing" (Ok maybe not a wolf - more like an angry labrador, but you get my drift )
Lee R
if i HAD to choose, it'd prolly be the Mazda but I just love the looks of the A3. EVERY review i've read (and shown me bro ) says they look bland
98gt
Nah m8, the A3 oozes class. They don't look great on 15" wheels alright The Mazda has a cracking engine and that particular car has been for sale for ages.
